POSITION OVERVIEW

Byrna is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Quality Control Manager who will be key to developing, implementing, and managing worldwide quality vision, strategies, policies, processes, and systems to aid and improve business performance. Leads and develops a team of high-performance quality professionals, ensuring a proactive culture, that delivers results by supporting solutions and customer loyalty. This individual will work closely with internal and external key stakeholders to drive continuous improvement across all quality-related areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide guidance on the implementation of corrective actions for issues related to internally produced products and processes. Supports manufacturing with process evaluations and calibration activities
  • Be responsible for supplier quality assurance activities, including evaluations and audits. Manages overall corrective action process for customer and supplier concerns
  • Analyze data to determine trends and evaluate any changes necessary to eliminate rejections and/or procedural problems
  • Expert in ISO9001

Quality Management System

  • Report on Quality System effectiveness and requirements to the management team as required including preparing and executing facility Quality Management Reviews
  • Establish, maintain, and optimize an effective quality management system
  • Implement performance measures necessary to evaluate organizational performance and trends in product quality, services, customer satisfaction, and cost of poor quality. Use the results to target improvement efforts
  • Apply Quality Engineering tools such as Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTE), Root Cause Analysis, Design of Experiment (DOE), etc., to the development of new products or processes; and in solving process/ product-related problems. Promote and apply the DMAIC/PDCA Methodology for product/process/system improvements
  • Establish programs to identify non-conformances and implement corrections and improvements

Supplier Quality

  • Collaborate with Purchasing to develop and implement a supplier management strategy
  • Assess and monitor supplier capabilities and quality to ensure desired levels of performance. Work with supplier to resolve any incoming component quality problems

New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Support new product introductions through the design transfer activities
  • Collaborate with Engineering on new product development and design review for quality/reliability issues. NPI follows a solid PPAP process (Production Part Approval Process).
  • Lead responsibilities and act as the owner for the risk analysis throughout the product life cycle, both in the design process and in the post-launch stage
  • Transfer from development to manufacturing

Manufacturing Quality

  • Develops proactive quality initiative strategies and drives its implementation
  • Formulate quality assurance policy for all phases of the manufacturing process including incoming components, work in process, and finished goods
  • Make appropriate recommendations and implement quality initiatives to improve and drive execution of our internal quality performance
  • Maintain internal controls to assure defect avoidance rather than defect identification

Customer Satisfaction

  • Analyze customer returns and provide lessons learned to Manufacturing and Development to continuously improve our product quality
  • Coordinate practices required by customers including problem resolution, obtainment of temporary deviations, and establishment of acceptance criteria
  • Represent the company in both customer and agency audits

Team Management / Mentorship

  • Hire, train, and lead a team of Quality professionals
  • Research and identify potential technology or methods that the quality team may use to improve quality processes and efficiencies

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree. STEM field preferred
  • 7+ years’ Quality experience in Manufacturing / Operations
  • 4+ years’ professional experience and understanding of product development
  • Experience in both Quality and Lean/Operational Excellence (5+ years) and in management of a team (3+ years)
  • Experience with MIM, PIM, stamping, and machined components
  • Broad technical knowledge in the areas of manufacturing processes, lean concepts, quality, and plant engineering
  • Strong working knowledge of problem-solving/root cause analysis and process management.
  • Strong working knowledge of ERP systems
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Previous experience and demonstrated competency in Quality Management Systems, at a minimum ISO 9001
  • Strong interpersonal skills used for the review, motivation, and development of direct reports, and for building relationships with internal and external customers

  • Master’s Degree or MBA
  • Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Lean Certification
  • ETQ or other software quality management systems
