Lead Information Assurance (IA) Network Engineer / Systems Administrator Location: N6-Communications, USNAVSOUTH/FOURTHFLT

Position Summary:

The Lead IA Network Engineer / Systems Administrator provides expert support in managing, securing, and maintaining network infrastructure for USNAVSOUTH/FOURTHFLT. This role involves operating a range of network systems, designing secure architectures, and ensuring compliance with DoD cybersecurity standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide lead IA network engineering and system administrator services during normal work hours (0730-1600) from designated IA spaces.
  • Operate, secure, maintain, and repair network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, video teleconference systems, servers, and TACLANE encryptors, anticipating network growth of 5% annually.
  • Design, implement, and maintain secure DoD C4I systems, JWICS, CENTRIXS, and other operational networks as needed.
  • Conduct weekly scans and patches (10-15 per week), ensuring compliance with DoD Information Assurance (IA) and Computer Network Defense (CND) guidelines.
  • Act as the primary network engineer and secondary system administrator for various government communication systems, including DCGS-N, ADSI, GCCS-J, Radiant Mercury (RADMERC), and VTC systems.
  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for network and system security operations.
  • Perform configuration, diagnostics, and upgrades on 24 switches and routers, analyze traffic patterns, and optimize network performance.
  • Install and maintain software and hardware, ensuring secure versions and configurations of information systems.
  • Design and implement network architectures, coordinate topology changes, and document modifications per DoD guidelines.
  • Maintain accountability of over 150 IT assets assigned to USNAVSOUTH/FOURTHFLT.
  • Advise and assist customers in troubleshooting complex issues while minimizing operational interruptions.
  • Conduct network assessments, vulnerability scans, and compliance audits, ensuring systems meet DoD 8570.01-M IA workforce requirements.

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship required; must possess TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Extensive experience in IA technology, network security, and system administration.
  • Required certifications:
    • NSA/CNSS 1411 - Information Systems Security (INFOSEC) Professional
    • CCNP Routing & Switching
    • CCNA Security & CCNA
    • CompTIA Security+ Certification
    • Cisco ASA 5515-x firewall with IPS experience
    • DCGS-N Block 2 Ashore maintenance training
    • Radiant Mercury (RADMERC) Administrator
    • SPLUNK log correlation & management
    • Cisco VTC operation & configuration
    • Wireshark network sniffing tool
    • VMware virtual servers & workstations
    • MS Visio & ACAS scanning software
    • Compliance with DoD 8570.01-M IA Level II Certification (GSEC, Network+ CE, Security+ CE, SSCP)

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Engineer and implement network infrastructure, including secure system installations.
  • Configure firewalls, routers, and switches, ensuring optimal security and functionality.
  • Provide hardware and software maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting support.
  • Assist with PC and IT hardware maintenance, system communications, and resource allocations.
  • Perform other related network engineering and system administration duties as assigned.
