Responsibilities:

  • Defines requirements for documentation, design intent and reports.
  • Is a technical leader for product engineering, validation and application personnel as needed.
  • Leads projects as required through the product development project process.
  • Defines appropriate calculations to develop robust designs to meeting project specifications.
  • Allocates ample time to research and lead solutions for NPD projects.
  • Regularly provides project status reports to leadership in a clear and concise manner.
  • Leads change management efforts for continuous improvement within development as required.
  • Defines development standards and best practices.
  • Executes final reviews on new product designs.
  • Uses a strong and specialized engineering foundation to provide technical leadership to the team.
  • Leverages technical leadership to support engineering, production leads and customers as needed.
  • Provides mentorship to engineers at any level; May or may not have direct reports.
  • Defines DFMEA practices to analyze failure modes and address risks.
  • Demonstrates initiative and innovation within cross-functional teams focused on meeting continuous improvement objectives.
  • Utilizes critical thinking to aid in solid decision making and creative thinking to find solutions to unique problems.
  • Clearly and concisely communicates in verbal and written form to inform the organization on activity status and with demonstrated ability to perform effective change management is required.
  • Cooperates with stake holders to ensure successful and timely handoffs of development projects.
  • As a member of the engineering team, act as a team member in improvement initiatives with products, processes, or business systems.

Specialized Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Engineering/Controls
    • Has a complete knowledge base of electrical standards (NFPA 79, UL 508a).
    • Defines requirements for schematics and panel layouts for power and control cabinets.
    • Leads electrical engineering efforts within the product engineering teams.
    • Defines testing requirements for the validation and test engineering teams.
    • Defines electrical designs, testing, controls, and fixtures for engineering teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering related field.
  • Five (5) or more years of prior work experience in a technical field with previous experience in product development or design preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills along with the ability to find solutions without compromising customer or company objectives is required.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites and trade shows, or approximately 5%-10% travel.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings is required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite application is required.
  • Experience with 2D or 3D CAD for design activities as required (SolidWorks, DraftSight/AutoCAD preferred).
