Description

MidAmerica Nazarene University, a premier Christian University located in Olathe, KS is seeking applications for a full time 12-month Assistant Athletic Trainer reporting to the Director of Sports Medicine. The Assistant Athletic Trainer assists with the day-to-day management of the sports medicine department, which requires some night and weekend work.

Candidates for the above position should possess a commitment to Christian higher education, model servant leadership, and be willing to assume the duties listed in the following position description.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

  • Prevention and care of athletic injury and illnesses
  • Evaluation of athletic injuries
  • Communication of information between the sports medicine team, coaches, student-athletes and parents
  • Education and counseling for student-athletes regarding their injury/illness
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and record-keeping
  • Maintain the system of daily records of assessments, treatments, and rehabilitation for all athletes with guaranteed confidentiality according to FERP, HIPPA, and other regulations that apply
  • Oversee the monitoring and care of the athletics training room, equipment, and inventory housed there.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing, in a manner consistent with professional standards, including making oral presentations to groups and contributing to the development of high-quality written materials which reflect positively on the University
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with persons both internal and external to the University, both on the telephone and in person. The ability to relate in a caring manner to students and families from a broad range of backgrounds, both in group situations and individually, and to effectively advise students and mediate disputes, some of which will be emotionally charged.
  • Ability to use new technologies to accomplish team and departmental goals
  • Ability to travel and work a varied schedule which may include night and weekend hours
  • Current certification in first aid, CPR and AED.
  • Eligible for state of Kansas Licensure

 

Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization is required.
  • National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) certificated.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in a University Intercollegiate athletics setting is preferred.
