The Assistant Counselor is a seasonal position that reports to the Head Counselor. This program will run from June 23-August 1, 2025 (no camp on July 4) and the expected hours of work are 8:30 am-3:30 pm, Monday-Friday. The mandatory all staff training will take place on Tuesday, June 10 from 4:30 - 8:00 pm. Pre-camp staff training, lesson planning, classroom setup will take place the week of June 16 (no camp June 19 and 20) with mandatory all staff training scheduled for June 10. The Assistant Counselor is an integral part of the summer camp staff and is responsible for supporting the Head Counselor in ensuring that the summer camp is a safe, fun and enriching experience for the campers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Head Counselor in executing daily activities including homebase time-
- Panther Day Camp offers outdoor excursions, sports, arts & crafts, games, educational and recreational opportunities for the campers.
- Discovery offers a variety of workshops which may include Archery, Camp Crafts, Tinkering, Tabletop Games and Coding.
- Actively participate in all camp activities to help build relationships with campers.
- Supervise campers at all times, including lunch and recess time prioritizing their well being and safety.
- Follow all safety protocols and procedures established by Summer@Potomac.
- Assist in cleaning, maintaining and ensuring proper use of Summer@Potomac facilities and equipment.
- Use positive and proactive techniques to resolve any camper behavioral issues. Effectively communicate such issues to the Head Counselor.
- Assist in morning arrival and afternoon dismissal of campers.
- Participate in staff orientations, pre-camp staff training, preparations for camp opening and meetings.
- Adhere to the procedures and policies outlined in The Summer@Potomac Staff Handbook.
- Participate in both morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
