Faculty Position - Upper School Math Teacher

The Potomac School Math Department seeks candidates for a full-time Upper School Math Teacher opening for the 2025-2026 school year. This position reports to the Head of the Upper School and is responsible for teaching four classes as well as advising a group of Upper School students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Inspire a love of math in students through teaching four classes.
• Build relationships with students via the classroom and an advisory.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instruction in a manner that facilitates active, student-centered learning using various teaching methods such as discussions, group activities, and occasional lectures.
• Work with students to encourage and facilitate each individual’s growth.
• Collaborate actively with math department colleagues, including on curriculum and course planning.
• Teach the assigned curriculum, evaluate students’ progress, and inform parents of progress.
• Keep attendance records; manage student behavior in the classroom and maintain a positive educational environment for all students.
• Meet with parents as needed to discuss student progress and challenges.
• Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and other teacher training workshops.
• Demonstrate personal leadership qualities to inspire student learning, including understanding of the characteristics of the age group taught.
• Work in an organized, dependable, patient, and creative manner.
• Advise a group of Upper School students by developing meaningful relationships with them and supporting their academic and social-emotional growth.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably with previous experience teaching math at the Upper School level.
• Ability to communicate, motivate, and understand the students’ educational and emotional needs.
• Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers, support staff, parents and members of the community.
• Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences in students and use different teaching methods that inspire high student engagement and achievement.
• Enthusiasm and joy for working with students.
