SUMMARY

The Forklift Operator is responsible for loading, unloading and moving all materials throughout the facility for processing and assists in the handling/processing of materials as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Load and/or unload materials on trailers as needed.
  • Weigh, label, and properly store all processed materials as required.
  • Maintain and service the forklift truck and informs the Supervisor of any significant issues.
  • Complete forklift inspections by checking the items on the daily forklift inspection sheet and report any significant issues to shift supervisor and documents findings.
  • Operate balers, granulators, trash compactor and other equipment as needed.
  • Provide proper weight tickets to front office for billing purposes.
  • Ensure proper tare weight program is used for material by referencing spec sheets.
  • Sweep up debris in the following areas: shipping/ receiving trailers, granulators, balers, floor scales, and surrounding warehouse areas.
  • Empty trash containers throughout the facility and performs daily scale inspections.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Interact in-person with peers and management for the duration of the shift. 
  • Must be able to handle high stress situations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

BASIC EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Ability to become certified in forklift operation.
  • At least 6 months forklift operation experience preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal work instruction.
  • Ability to work in a loud, wet, dusty and physically demanding work environment including extreme hot and cold temperature variations.
  • Ability to count accurately and assist with daily inventory.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to train others while performing the essential duties of this job.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Stands, walks, or remains in a seated position for the majority of the shift; frequently on uneven floors/ground or raised platforms.
  • Constant repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers; to operate warehouse equipment.
  • Specific vision requirements include color, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Routinely performs repetitive movements such as bending, twisting, reaching and lifting.
  • May be required to lift, carry and position material weighing up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanic parts.
