Purpose
The Librarian Assistant will assist the Library Media Specialists in the day-to-day operations. The Library Assistant is responsible for performing routine clerical duties within the libraries and assisting the Librarians with locating books, stocking shelves, checking in and out books and materials, and processing new books.
Essential Job Functions

Supports the School’s mission statement and the philosophy of the department and adheres to School policies and procedures, including but not limited to what is outlined in the Employee Handbook

Greets students, faculty and guests of the School who visit the libraries.

Responds to telephone calls, messages and emails in a timely and accurate fashion.

Performs circulation desk procedures, such as checking in and checking out materials during the school day and before school

Assists with overdue books and material notifications

Shares in shelving of books in the Lower School with parent volunteers.

Assists librarians with decorating the library for holidays

Assists librarians with creating posters and displays for motivational reading programs.

Labels books with stickers categorizing their section and call number

Assists librarians with inventory by scanning books

Assists librarians in maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment.

Assists students in locating library materials

Supervises students, encouraging proper library behavior

Assists in processing library materials

Repairs library materials
-
Maintains the libraries with supplies, etc., for users

Ability to be trained in library data entry (cataloging)
-
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Department Supervisor or their designee
