Position Summary

 

The role of the Cardiovascular Ultrasound Technical Coordinator reports to the CV Services Quality Assurance & Echo Manager. This position is responsible for the technical and daily tasks associated within the cardiovascular ultrasound service line.  This position is responsible for performing echocardiogram studies and advanced cardiac and vascular ultrasound procedures. This position is responsible for training and providing resources for staff, as necessary. This position will actively participate in quality review and assist with development of policies and protocols.

 

Essential Position Responsibilities

  • Perform echocardiograms and other procedures, as necessary.
  • Provide direction, where necessary, coordination, and at times, participate in the professional care of patients within an assigned department pursuant to the objectives and policies, the departmental process, and established standards.
  • Establish and implement quality and process improvement initiatives for staff in the health care setting in partnership with leadership, including goals to elevate the standard of care.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to assist in resolving issues, when appropriate, and providing follow up or appropriately escalating to leadership as needed.
  • Perform quality review of studies with the medical director and provide associated education to the cardiovascular ultrasound team.
  • Actively participate and engage in process improvement initiatives and identify educational opportunities.
  • Provide education and support to team to improve and facilitate patient care and satisfaction.
  • Ensure that program and services meet accrediting standards for the Joint Commission and other accrediting or governing boards and programs.
  • Provide effective, appropriate, and timely communication and establish productive working relationships with various entities, including patients, patient families, staff members, physicians, vendors, and community members.
  • Utilize effective problem-solving techniques, demonstrate initiative and critical thinking, and develop ways to overcome challenges.
  • Understand the age-specific needs, including care, communication, and safety needs for the patient population served.

 

Qualifications

  • Education: Completion of an accredited cardiovascular ultrasound program
  • Licensure and Certifications: ARDMS or CCI registry is required. BLS/ CPR required.
  • Experience: In-depth knowledge of cardiovascular ultrasound practices generally associated with a CV ultrasound lab. Minimum qualification includes 5 years of cardiac ultrasound experience. 1-year supervisory experience preferred.

 

Work Environment: This position has exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, radiation, and chemicals common to an ultrasound lab and inpatient nursing areas. This position spends the minority of the time standing and walking (less than 50% of work time).  Frequent lifting, pushing/pulling, and carrying of up to 100 lbs. is required when positioning patients and equipment (up to 30% of work time).  This position serves a variety of age groups: Adults (up to 30% of the time), geriatrics (65%), and neonates (5%).
