Position Summary

The role of the Chaplain reports to the Director of Pastoral Care. This position is responsible for providing interfaith and culturally competent support for patients, families, and staff. This position responds to codes, traumas, deaths, and other requests for spiritual presence. This position serves as part of the interdisciplinary team, providing spiritual assessments including faith/spiritual beliefs, meaning, hope, purpose, family systems, advocacy needs and other pertinent information for wholistic care.

 

Essential Position Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a member of interdisciplinary group
  • Provide spiritual care to patients, families, and staff in an interfaith, multi-cultural setting
  • Establish and maintain a network with community faith leaders
  • Prioritize and respond to codes, crisis calls, deaths, and other requests for chaplain presence
  • Provide liaison service between family and medical staff during crises
  • Enter spiritual assessment into patient chart
  • Provide or coordinate religious or spiritual rituals and sacraments, as requested

 

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors degree in a related field, required.  Master's degree or equivalency with theological, psychology, or philosophy focus, preferred. 4 units of CPE, required.
  • Licensure and Certifications: 4 units of CPE, required. Letter of Ordination or endorsement by appropriate faith group, required. Chaplain certification by CPEI, CPSP or other COMISS cognate group within 12 months, required.
  • Experience: Clinical chaplain experience and/or CPE in a clinical setting, required.

Work Environment: This position will spend 25% of time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment and 75% of time standing and/or walking while pushing, pulling, lifting and/or carrying up to 50 lbs.
