Position Summary
The role of the Public Benefits Advocate reports to the Public Benefits Manager. This position is responsible for assisting uninsured patients with obtaining medical coverage.
Essential Position Responsibilities
- Interview uninsured patients, collect data, and make an assessment to determine if the patient may potentially qualify for Medicaid, SSI, State expansion and/or other benefits and programs
- Assist with application process, scheduling appointments, and any other necessary steps to assist patient in obtaining medical coverage
- Follow up with patients and work closely with Case Management, Central Billing Office, and onsite DHS caseworker with regards to patient discharges, claims, and eligibility status
- Partner with Medicaid and patients to assist with obtaining immediate coverage prior to patient discharge
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Licensure and Certifications: Required to obtain license through AR Insurance Department for Certified Application Counselor or In Person Assistor within 90 days* of hire or transfer into the position.
- Experience: Previous experience with a healthcare organization or government setting such as DHS/DDS, preferred. Bi-lingual candidate, preferred.
Work Environment: This position will spend 80% of the time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment and 20% of work time standing and/or walking short frequent distances with occasional lifting, bending, pushing and/or pulling up to 50 lbs. This position may be exposed to communicable disease and body fluids.
