BASIC PURPOSE: Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Program Supervisor oversees the day to day operations of Hiawatha Hall, an Intensive Residential Treatment Services facility for adults with sub-acute mental health symptoms. This position ensures that the home runs in accordance with regulations and best practice, and that practitioners and rehab workers create a calm and therapeutic environment that promotes and supports recovery.   

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Staff Supervision/House Operations: Daily supervision of staff; hiring and discipline as needed (in conjunction with Program Coordinator); ensure staff meet all initial and on-going training requirements; mentor and coach staff as needed to ensure client interactions and therapeutic environment are optimal for client needs; create, manage and maintain shift schedule; ensure that correct procedures are being followed and provide coaching, correction or discipline as needed.
  • Facilities Management: Work with Facilities Supervisor to ensure that physical needs of house are maintained per safety requirements and within budget constraints. Delegate or conduct maintenance functions that can be handled by on-site staff. Prioritize needed repairs; coordinate with maintenance staff to get repairs done in least disruptive manner possible.
  • Direct Client Service: Assist staff with difficult client situations as needed; role model appropriate therapeutic interventions and behavior management techniques including, but not limited to, crisis de-escalation and intervention; make sound decisions with regard to client well-being, especially at key times such as intake and discharge; fill-in for Daily Client Care services as needed; convene screening team to review and make determinations; coordinate new client intakes.
  • General Administration: Monitor monthly budget and make corrections as necessary; ensure that policies, procedures and practice are in line with MN Rule and Statute for IRTS facilities; develop and maintain a relationship with all referral sources and stakeholders; participate as a member of the leadership team for Hiawatha Hall in conjunction with Program Coordinator and Clinical Supervisor. Also included is managing referrals, signing time sheets and petty cash.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ENVIRONMENT:

Education, Training, Work Experience or Licensure: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related Human Services Field; qualified as a MN Mental Health Practitioner; two years of experience working directly with adult mental health clients beyond practitioner level; previous supervision experience preferred.

Specialized Knowledge or Skills: Strong verbal communication skills required; strong ability to work with and relate to adults with serious mental illness; excellent ability to manage emotional and behavioral issues with mentally ill clients; ability to lead, coach and mentor new and experienced staff; strong organizational skills required.

Equipment and Applications: Proficient at personal computer standard applications (Word, Excel, E-mail, etc.). Use of fax and photocopy machine.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: Residential environment in a two-story Victorian home; semi-private office space with desk, phone and computer supplied.  Position may require lifting, carrying or moving of items less than 50 lbs. (groceries, small furniture, client belongings, etc.)
