Position title: Mattress Closer

Reports to: Mattress Supervisor

Supervises: N/A

Position summary:

The Mattress Closer is responsible for positioning the mattress on the table and operates a mattress-closing machine while feeding in materials to be sewn. Ensuring specifications according to quality standards is essential in this position as it is the final mattress assembly operation before packaging.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Checks to see if all materials needed are present to perform operation.
• Checks quality of product to meet specification.
• Notifies Supervisor of any mechanical or material problems.
• Operates Mattress Closing machine including feeding materials into sewing machine as the machine is moved around the mattress.
• Corrects any defective taping on mattresses
• Assures all sewing specifications are met
• Assures that all tools and equipment work safely and properly.
• Performs a safety check at the beginning of each shift. Notifies the maintenance department of any out of specification tool or equipment.
• Maintains the area in a safe, clean and orderly manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned to include moving from one area to another as the work and products change.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Basic knowledge of production processes
• Attention to detail
• Experience with mattress closing machine or similar seam closing sewing machines highly desired
• Must be able to stand and move mattresses full work day
• Prior assembly or manufacturing experience required
• Must be able to lift up to 120 pounds.

Education and work experience:

• Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 1-3 years mattress sewing experience desired
