Compensation: $23.00

Job Summary: Full Time. All clinics are open Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities:

1. Functions Specific to Role as Authorization Specialist
1.1. Patient Referral
• Process all Hospital Medical Clinics requests for patient referral to external providers.
• Process all Medical Clinics requests for patient referral to advanced diagnostic imaging services, including computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and nuclear medicine imaging.
• Assess needs for insurance company authorization of referrals, and obtain such authorization when indicated.

• Collect Medical Clinics documentation necessary for referral provision, and submit such documentation to applicable providers.
• Provide follow-up to ensure that every referred patient is scheduled appropriately.
• Provide follow-up to ensure that documentation about every given referral patient appointment is forwarded to the Medical Clinic where referral was initially requested.
• Compile referral statistics, and report such statistics as directed by Medical Clinics Operations Manager.
1.2. Administrative Duties
• Appropriately answer, transfer, and document internal and external telephone calls, providing information and feedback to Medical Clinics Department Staff and Medical Staff.
• Participate in Department Performance Improvement activity as directed by Medical Clinics Director.
• Coordinate service provision with that of Medical Clinics and Hospital Departments.
• Adeptly use electronic medical record and patient management system.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND BACKGROUND
• knowledge of principles that relate to the position, including medical terminology, Current Procedural Technology coding, and coding used in the ninth revision of the International Classification of Diseases
• aptitude in verbal and written communication, including ability to communicate with persons in all age groups
• possession of a high school diploma and (optimally) at least some college education
• completion of a postsecondary medical assisting training program at an accredited school, preferred
• at least two years of experience in a medical clinic and referrals/authorizations
• possession of United States proof of citizenship or right to work in the United States
• possession of a driver license or analogous identification
• willingness to participate in Hospital orientation and educational in-service
