Job Requirements

  • Promptly and competently perform nuclear medicine studies, as ordered by Hospital Medical Staff, according to established standards and guidelines
  • Promptly and competently perform radiologic procedures, as ordered by Hospital Medical Staff, in the Diagnostic Imaging Department, the Emergency Department, Surgery and Hospital inpatient areas, according to established standards and guidelines.
  • Legibly complete applicable documentation related to nuclear medicine studies, and promptly send such documentation with study images to Hospital radiologist for interpretation.
  • Inform, in a timely manner, Hospital radiologists of completed nuclear medicine studies
  • Promptly send nuclear medicine study images to the Department picture archiving and communication systems (PACS)
  • Transmit nuclear medicine study images to contracted teleradiology services as indicated
  • Read nuclear medicine study reports to ordering Medical Staff as is requested
  • Provide assistance with Department paperwork and clerical tasks when such assistance is needed
  • Remain willing to work at times and locations as assigned by Diagnostic Imaging Director
  • Patient Care:
    • Ensure patient safety and well-being at all times
    • Transport patients to and from the nuclear medicine area when appropriate
    • Thoroughly and accurately explain nuclear medicine study purposes, protocol, and expectations to patients
    • Assist with patient undressing and dressing as indicated
    • Consistently use proper radiation safety and provide proper radiation protection for patients and others
    • Elicit and record applicable patient medical history as is indicated
    • Ensure that radionuclide isotopes for each nuclear medicine study are correct and are administered properly and safely.
    • Respond to Code blue as is appropriate
    • Remain alert for potential dangers to patients and Hospital staff.

Qualifications

Education/Qualifications

  • Knowledge of principles that relate to the position
  • Aptitude in verbal and written communication, including ability to communicate with persons in all age groups
  • Possession of a degree from an accredited school of diagnostic imaging
  • Possession of a current certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board
  • Possession of current licensure by the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging for Medical Imaging
  • Possession of United States proof of citizenship or right to work in the United States
  • Possession of a driver license or analogous identification
  • Willingness to participate in Hospital orientation and education in-service
