The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is hiring a full time Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to manage the financial operations of the organization, ensuring the organization’s financial health and sustainability. This position provides strategic oversight and leadership to the IT, retail, and finance teams. This role can be hybrid and requires some onsite presence at our organization’s seven locations, primarily at our Milwaukee location. The CFO reports to the President & CEO and serves as a key member of the organization’s leadership team, participating in organizational strategic planning, decision-making, and policy development to support our mission.
Key Accountabilities

Provide strategic oversight for all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

Manage relationships with external partners, including banks, auditors, and other financial service providers.

Build effective IT, retail, and finances teams through hiring, leading, motivating, coaching, and developing staff.

Work with the Retail Coordinator to establish, develop, and implement strategies to ensure retail achieves the annual budgeted goals and continues to grow as another revenue resource of the organization.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or equivalent experience; CPA and/or MBA desirable.

At least five years’ experience as an CFO or equivalent, preferably in a nonprofit organization with a budget of at least $5 million, multiple funding sources, and multiple operating locations.

The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is the oldest and largest shelter in Wisconsin. It was founded in 1879 and operates shelters in Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Racine, Door, Brown, and Kenosha Counties, as well as a Spay/Neuter Clinic in West Allis. The organization offers adoption services, youth programming, and veterinary resources for animals from low-income households, retail stores, volunteer programs and dog training classes. The Milwaukee shelter also houses the state’s busiest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
