Summary:

Vighter is recruiting Computed Tomography (CT) Technicians to provide service at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City, UT. CT Technologists are responsible for operating computerized tomography (CT) equipment to create cross-sectional images of the body. These images help doctors diagnose medical conditions such as cancers, fractures, and infections. CT Techs must be skilled in patient care, understanding anatomy, and ensuring proper use of the CT equipment while maintaining patient safety.

Education, Licensure/Certification & Experience:

·  Education: Associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field. Some employers may require a bachelor’s degree.

·  Licensing/Certification:

  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R) and CT (CT).
  • State licensure, if applicable.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification may be required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

·  Patient Preparation:

  • Review patient history and medical records before the scan.
  • Explain the CT procedure to patients to alleviate anxiety and ensure understanding.
  • Ensure that patients are appropriately positioned for imaging.
  • Administer contrast materials (e.g., iodine-based contrast) as required for certain scans, ensuring patient safety and comfort.

·  CT Equipment Operation:

  • Operate CT machines to capture high-quality images.
  • Adjust settings on the equipment to obtain the necessary images, focusing on accurate scans.
  • Ensure the CT scanner is calibrated and in proper working order.
  • Monitor patients during the scanning process, ensuring their comfort and safety.

·  Image Quality and Documentation:

  • Review CT scans for quality and ensure the images meet diagnostic standards.
  • Store and transfer images to appropriate medical records systems.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and physicians to ensure accurate image interpretation.
  • Maintain detailed records of procedures, including patient information and scans taken.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in operating CT imaging equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Attention to detail to ensure image quality and patient safety.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients and medical staff.
  • Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot equipment and patient-related issues.

·  Safety and Infection Control:

  • Follow proper safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff.
  • Adhere to infection control guidelines and cleanliness standards.

·  Patient Care:

  • Assist patients with mobility issues when positioning them for scans.
  • Monitor vital signs and patient condition, reporting any changes to medical staff.
  • Provide reassurance and support to patients during the procedure.

Duty Hours / On-call Requirements:

  • The Salt Lake City VA Medical Center is looking for dedicated CT Techs with a willingness to work evening and night shifts. The VA MC is open 24/7/365 to provide service to military veterans. Shifts include: evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Travelers work assigned schedules based on the needs of the company.

Travel:

  • Seeking local candidates or candidates willing to travel (w/stipend) for 3 month – 1 year assignments.
  • Note: Per the Joint Travel Regulations, candidates with a permanent residence less than 50 miles from a worksite are considered local hires and are not eligible to receive per diem or travel pay.

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to walk, stand, bend, and/or sit for more than 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to perform BLS/CPR if necessary and assist patients into/out of a wheelchair.
  • Must be able to perform duties in a stressful and often austere environment without physical limitations.
  • Must be able to use an elevator or walk up and down stairs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 10 feet.
  • Must be able to routinely grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above and below shoulders.
  • Must be able to read and interpret handwritten and typewritten print.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be willing to work day, night, weekdays, weekends, holidays, and overtime if necessary.
  • Must be able to perform duties in an indoor and/or outdoor environment.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background investigation. Candidate must not have been convicted of, pled guilty to, pled nolo contender to, or received probation prior to judgement for any crime other than a minor traffic violation, the record of which has not been expunged.
  • Must undergo Urine Drug Screening (UDS).
