JOB SUMMARY
This position reports directly to the Director of Human Resources and will work out of the Chicago, IL plant near Midway for 4 – 6 months and then permanently work out of the East Chicago, IN plant by Q4 2025.
As an HR Generalist, you will handle a variety of HR responsibilities, including, but not limited to, recruitment, benefits administration, payroll, and employee relations. You will be responsible for tasks like onboarding new hires, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and employee relations. Additionally, you will assist in the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures to support the Company's growth and overall employee experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role you will need to possess strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, and the ability to work independently, and as part of a team. You will need to be proficient in HRIS software (preferably Paycom or like systems) and have a solid understanding of relevant HR laws, policies, and procedures. You must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Recruitment and Onboarding: You will be involved with the full recruitment cycle from posting postings to onboarding new hires;
- Benefits Administration: You will assist with the management of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, fitness reimbursement, retirement plans, and other benefits. You will help troubleshoot employee inquiries and assist during open enrollment;
- Payroll: You will assist with administering payroll ensuring accurate and timely processing, tax withholdings, and compliance with regulations;
- Employee Relations: You will ensure a positive work environment by listening to and collecting information to address any management or employee concerns;
- Compliance: You will ensure the Company complies with all relevant labor laws and regulations;
- File Maintenance & Documentation: You will maintain employee records electronically ensuring compliance with legal requirements for retention and maintaining confidentiality;
- HR Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws;
- Engagement Team: Participate and take a lead role in HFG’s Engagement Team; and
- Other Duties: Be open to completing other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Management, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of experience in Human Resources, particularly with payroll and benefits administration
- Strong understanding of employment law including FMLA, ADA, and ERISA
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to handle confidential information is a MUST
- Attention to detail, ability to handle multiple projects and effectively prioritize
- Bilingual Spanish
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PHR or SHRM-CP Certification
- Experience in a fast-paced or manufacturing environment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
- Ability to lift or move packages weighing up to 25lbs
