Description

San Antonio Christian School is seeking a dynamic, experienced and collaborative leader to serve as a substitute. Located on a beautiful 71-acre campus, SACS is a non-denominational covenant Christian school with small class sizes and quality academics, coupled with a wide range of art and athletic opportunities which provide students with a Christ-centered education while fostering a life of faith and service.

We are seeking dependable and adaptable individuals to join our team as substitute. In a teacher substitute role, you will provide instruction and classroom management in the absence of the regular teacher, following lesson plans and ensuring a positive, productive learning environment. In other substitute positions, this individual will be serving the needs of that department.  Strong communication, flexibility, and a commitment to student success are essential. This is an on-call position with opportunities to support various grade levels, subjects, and departments.

JOB DUTIES COMPETENCIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching Duties

 

  • Carries out a program of study prescribed in the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher. (*Long-term Substitute Teachers may have planning and assessment responsibilities as directed by the respective building principal for the long-term assignment.)
  • Maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and objectives as indicated in the lesson plans for the lessons, units, or projects assigned.
  • Employs instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting lesson objectives.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly classroom. Straightens chairs, tables, and clears whiteboard, etc.
  • Knows emergency evacuation routes for the classroom assigned.
  • Knows school procedures and regulations.
  • Maintains a positive and collaborative climate across departments.
  • Assists younger students should “accident”/sickness occurs when subbing in the elementary school.
  • Seeks assistance when needed.
  • Apply appropriate discipline structure as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Supervises extracurricular activities, organizations, and outings as assigned.

Clinic Duties

  • Provide Basic Medical Care: Administer first aid, treat minor injuries, and care for students with illnesses or medical conditions during the school day.

  • Administer Medications: Dispense prescribed medications to students in accordance with healthcare plans and school policies.

  • Manage Student Health Plans: Monitor and implement care for students with chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or allergies, following individualized health plans.

  • Maintain Health Records: Accurately document student visits, treatments, and medication administration while maintaining confidentiality.

  • Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly and effectively in medical emergencies, providing initial care and contacting emergency services if needed.

Office/Other Support Duties

  • Front Desk Management: Greet visitors, answer phones, and assist with inquiries, ensuring a welcoming and professional front office environment.

  • Clerical Support: Perform general administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, copying, and distributing materials as needed.

  • Student Assistance: Support students by delivering messages, helping with attendance, and managing check-ins/outs.

  • Staff Support: Assist department with various tasks, communications, and assigned duties.

  • Maintain Confidentiality: Handle sensitive information, including student and staff records, with discretion and professionalism.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree. Substitute teaching experience preferred. 
  • Able to handle multiple projects independently and collaboratively. 
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and integrity regarding sensitive employee information with discretion, empathy, and professionalism.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to handle multiple projects independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong technology skills with knowledge of standard software in Microsoft Office and variety of programs. 
  • Acknowledge Christ as Lord and Savior and be an active member of a local evangelical church that aligns with the school’s essential beliefs, Nicene Creed, and statement of faith.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and have reliable transportation.
