The Director of Human Resources is a key member of the Mundo Verde staff, setting the tone for a caring and professional work environment for more than 250 employees across two campuses. The Director of HR will plan, lead, direct, develop, and coordinate the policies, activities, and staff of the Human Resource (HR) department; ensure legal compliance and implementation of the organization’s mission; and execute on the organization’s talent strategy. 

 

  • Oversee the daily workflow of the HR department including supervision of external contractors responsible for payroll and benefits
  • Supervise the team members responsible for sourcing and hiring great talent.
  • Serve as the primary resource for employees when there are question


 

The Director will report to the Chief of Operations and Sustainability Officer (COSO) and supervise internal and external teams, including the Talent Team - responsible for recruitment, onboarding, and retention; and also, a small set of HR consultants who assist with payroll, investigations and benefits. 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organization’s goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, retention and workforce management and development.
  • Serves as point of contact for union grievances and completes investigations with recommendations for corrective action.
  • Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization’s human resource compliance and strategy needs.
  • Administers or oversees the administration of human resource programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organization’s human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system.
  • Monitors and ensures the organization’s compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Executes the organizational talent strategy overseeing the recruitment and onboarding of staff.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
  • Develops and monitors departmental budget.
  • Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff.
  • Performs other duties as required. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

  • Schedule: 8 hour day
  • Location: Non-campus based, working across the organization, “Network”
  • Position Type (STAFF): This is an exempt, 12-month salaried position.
  • Contingent Offer: Employment offers are contingent on negative TB test and successful fingerprinting and background check in accordance with DC laws.

Qualifications

 


 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or demonstrable evidence of comparable work history) in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least seven years of human resource management experience is required.
  • Union and labor management expertise preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP preferred.
