Summary:  The Sales Development Manager is responsible for the development of assigned sales representatives across the independent account channel to help maximize sales and profits, by performing the essential duties listed herein personally or through subordinate supervisors. The Sales Development Manager is expected to participate in an atmosphere that promotes trust, creativity, open and honest feedback, accountability, and personal development.  The job is fast paced and will require excellent communication, time and task management skills. Success in this role will require open and honest feedback to all members of the team at all times.

Essential Duties:

  • Cultivate Sales Proficiency and Attainment of Objectives for Designated Team Members
  • Foster and Implement a Robust Mentoring Program
  • Develop and Execute Comprehensive Training Modules
  • Cultivate Proficiency in Sales Software Tools and Implementations
  • Design, Create, Schedule and Participate Actively in Sales Training Programs.
  • Enforce Market Standards with Precision
  • Maintain a Continuous Recruitment Effort
  • Elevate Brand Recognition, in alignment with our organizational vision and supplier partnerships, by expanding distribution levels within the accounts assigned, forging strategic collaborations at all organizational echelons, and assuming personal accountability for account management.
  • Assist in the Execution of Distribution, Shelf, and Merchandising Standards across all designated accounts.
  • Analyze Competitive Intelligence to Craft Strategies for Heightened Sales and Enhanced Distribution.
  • Accompany merchandisers, account managers, and supervisors on customer visits to provide training, foster skill development, assess work performance, address customer issues, and identify market trends.
  • Conduct Quarterly and Annual Evaluations with all Designated Personnel.
  • Spearhead the Representation of the Company and/or Brand within the industry and at consumer events.
  • Actively Listen to Customer Concerns and Resolve Issues to Reinforce and Bolster Positive Public Relations.
  • Strategize and Execute Sales Goals.
  • Assume Responsibility for Territory Assessment and Adjust Staffing as Required.
  • Demonstrate Full Compliance with Established Sales Policies and Procedures to Ensure Exceptional Customer Experiences.
  • Leverage Product and Service Knowledge to Assist Sales Representatives in Delivering Top-Notch Customer Service.
  • Address and Resolve Customer Complaints in a Prompt and Professional Manner, in Accordance with Company Guidelines.
  • Represent the Company at Industry Trade Organizations as Necessary.
  • Be Willing and Able to Travel to Customer Locations for Sales Calls as Required.
  • Cultivate and Sustain an Effective Sales Team by Selecting, Training, Compensating, Motivating, Evaluating, and, if necessary, Terminating Direct Staff.
  • Provide Clear Guidance and Leadership to Assigned Team Members to Support Their Professional Growth and Align Them with Sales Standards.
  • Coordinate Market Visits and Foster Effective Communication with Supplier Representatives and Brand Managers.
  • Develop and Approve Monthly Schedules for all Designated Personnel.
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Elite's policies and applicable laws. Supervisory responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills:  Knowledge of word processing software; spreadsheet software; inventory; order processing; and database software.
  • Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificates and Licenses: Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
