Summary: We are seeking a Project Manager – Controls to oversee the successful delivery of controls products within customer sales orders. This role is responsible for ensuring all customer requirements are implemented effectively while maintaining project timelines and budgets. The Project Manager will drive operational efficiency, optimize project outcomes, and ensure a professional and cost-effective execution of customer specifications. This position requires strong project management skills, technical expertise, and a results-driven approach to maximize project success.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering and Project Management
- Strong experience in the design and delivery of control systems
- Project management experience within a project engineering environment
- Previous experience in site installation and management
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for interpreting mechanical and electrical drawings
- Proven ability to lead and motivate teams, including internal teams and subcontractors
- Strong customer focus with excellent communication skills
- Ability to take initiative and make informed decisions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Navision, AutoCAD, MS Project, and JIRA
- Specialized knowledge of sensor/actuator technology, control systems, and logistics
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in the Material Handling or Automation industry
- Knowledge of CDM regulations and safety standards, including CE and UKCA certifications
- Technical product knowledge with an understanding of cost implications
- Experience with change management, line management, and mentoring junior colleagues
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver performance, deadlines, technology, and cost targets for the control’s component of assigned projects.
- Plan resource requirements based on the project schedule to ensure timely completion.
- Coordinate and communicate with customers, other departments, adjacent processes, and suppliers to creatively convert layout designs (e.g., drive divisions, stowage spaces).
- Create comprehensive specifications, including customer and supplier requirements for Controls and MFR needs.
- Lead the technical management of System, Hardware, and Software Engineers assigned to the project, ensuring adherence to deadlines, budgets, and specifications.
- Facilitate discussions with customers and clarify control interfaces with third-party work.
- Create orders for control cabinet construction in line with project requirements.
- Develop tender documents for purchased trades, including E-installation for Controls.
- Guide Commissioning Engineers (both in-house and on-site), ensuring that schedules, budgets, and specifications are adhered to.
- Provide ongoing support to on-site teams as needed.
- Organize and manage customer training sessions, coordinating agendas, materials, and trainers with the Project Manager.
- Ensure successful handover of completed systems to the Customer Support team, providing system information, documentation, and training.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant UK, European, company, and customer standards.
- Act as a deputy for the Project Manager (when nominated), ensuring continued effective and professional team performance.
- Attend regular contract reviews with project staff to review planning and address any issues promptly.
- Visit supplier premises and construction sites to monitor progress and quality, planning future work activities.
- Identify and report variations to the Project Manager promptly, ensuring internal and external processing of information and associated work, including preparing cost estimates for any changes/variations.
- Periodically review project designs and provide internal feedback to relevant departments (e.g., Tendering, R&D).
- Manage all aspects of subcontracted packages from order to final acceptance.
- Attend customer sites as required to identify, analyze, and resolve issues or faults related to control system functionality.
Perform other tasks as directed by the Line Manager, as the list of responsibilities is not exhaustive.
Physical Requirements:
•   Ability to remain stationary at a desk for prolonged periods of time.
•   Ability to go to site frequently and move safely around industrial and/or warehouse environment.
•   Ability to lift and carry supplies up to 25 pounds at a time.Â
•   Ability to operate computers, tablets, phones, and other electronic devices.Â
•   Ability to communicate with others verbally and in writing, on a frequent basis.Â
•   Ability to tolerate exposure to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather in geographic region.
