SUMMARY

The Controls Network Engineer supports TGW‘s external customers and internal controls commissioning teams from a network engineering standpoint.  This position ensures that all customer and TGW network security and functionality requirements are satisfied during equipment-to-network communications.  Additionally, the Controls Network Engineer ensures that all installed equipment can communicate with TGW’s controls network.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in developing the operational technology network infrastructure, ensuring that industry best practices are followed, and operational integrity is maintained.  
  • Commissions network cabinets according to TGW standards to ensure efficient onsite controls commissioning.
  • Implements and maintains network security measures, including firewalls, access controls, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Monitors network performance, troubleshoots issues, and optimizes operations to minimize downtime and improve efficiency.
  • Terminates and tests fiber or Ethernet lines at customer sites.
  • Collaborates with commissioning engineers and other members of the project team to ensure that customer requirements are satisfied, and installation is operating smoothly.
  • Provides technical support and training to team members and customers as needed.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains global TGW standards relating to network infrastructure.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.

Experience:

Some prior experience working with industrial network installations.  

Travel:

30 – 50% travel, domestically and internationally.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of networking protocols, LAN and WLAN design, and networking security methodologies.
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and mechanical designs; ability to read electrical drawings and mechanical drawings (AutoCAD)
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Willingness and ability to travel as stated above.
  • Willingness and ability to work off-shift and/or weekends as needed.
  • Prior experience with industrial communication protocols and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems preferred.
  • Prior experience or knowledge of Cisco Systems preferred.  Cisco Certified Network Associate and/or Professional (CCNA or CCNP) certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires ability to walk, climb, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend, stretch, push and pull
  • Must be able to coordinate movement of several parts of the body, such as arms and legs, while the body is moving
  • Must be able to keep or regain the body’s balance or stay upright when in an unstable position
  • Must be able to use hands to handle, control, feel, grasp, move and/or assemble objects, tools or controls
  • Must be able to be physically active and use muscles for extended periods without getting tired or out of breath
  • Requires prolonged period of standing and walking
  • Must be able to climb a 70 foot fixed ladder (ladder has rest points every10ft)
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs; average lift less than 20 lbs
  • Must be able to adjust body movements or equipment controls to keep pace with speed changes of moving objects
  • While looking forward, must be able to see objects or movements that are off to the side
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines
  • Must be able to see differences between colors, shades and brightness
  • Exposed to moving and/or motorized equipment, machinery, parts and electricity that require safety protocols
  • Must be able to speak clearly so others can understand
  • Must be able to understand the speech of others
  • Must be able to hear sounds and recognize the difference between them
  • Must be able to focus on one source of sound and ignore others
  • Must be able to determine from which direction a sound came
  • Must be able to use critical PPE correctly
  • Exposed to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather based on geographic region
