Principal Duty

The Site Engineering Manager is a customer-facing role that combines critical thinking and integrated solution ownership with effective leadership, customer service, and management skills.  This role is part of the Lifetime Services (LTS) team, which oversees ongoing onsite services and automation support to customers after installation and implementation of TGW equipment.  The Site Engineering Manager is responsible for the overall management of the material handling systems installed at the customer site and the TGW personnel assigned to the customer site.  This position supervises the resident team of automation technicians and acts as the liaison between the customer and TGW on all automation-related topics.  The ideal candidate has a customer-first mentality, embraces customer interaction, and understands that the primary responsibility of this role is to build and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.

This position is based at our customer facility in Dayton, Ohio. 

Tasks & Responsibilities

  1. Serve as liaison between the customer facility and broader TGW Lifetime Services team. Attend regular customer meetings, provide updates on onsite activities, and ensure adherence to contractual obligations, such as performance clauses and staffing requirements.
  2. Develop rapport with customer operational staff at all levels.  Work closely with customer to identify system improvement opportunities proactively.
  3. Coordinate all maintenance activities, including the Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) schedule and rapid-response troubleshooting and repair of the automated equipment. Provide hands-on electrical, mechanical, and software technical support to assist with resolution of complex issues. 
  4. Drive incident management efforts. Ensure timely resolution of all issues and lead related root-cause analysis activities.
  5. Oversee TGW personnel onsite; participate in recruitment and onboarding processes, manage employee performance, training, and development, and complete administrative tasks such as timecard approval, responding to time-off requests, scheduling, etc.
  6. Manage budget requirements for onsite support.
  7. Ensure compliance with all health and safety guidelines, requirements, procedures, and regulations.  Serve as onsite lead in all safety investigations, and implement corrective actions as required.
  8. Collaborate with the broader TGW Lifetime Services team to track, document, and communicate issues, and lessons learned.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.  

Requirements Profile

  1. Associate degree or Technical Certificate required.  Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
  2. Demonstrated experience supervising a maintenance team in a factory or warehouse environment with automation equipment.
  3. Proven leadership ability, people and performance management skills, and experience handling high-stress scenarios requiring advanced interpersonal skills and conflict resolution techniques.
  4. Several years’ experience in mechatronic troubleshooting and repair with material handling conveyor, AS/RS, and shuttle experience.
  5. Strong proficiency in CMMS systems.
  6. Excellent communication skills and customer service skills.
  7. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, etc).
  8. Experience with PLC troubleshooting and use of programming, diagnostic, and troubleshooting tools preferred.
  9. Ability to travel up to 15%.

  10. While looking forward, must be able to see objects or movements that are off to the side
  11. Must be able to visually inspect machines
  12. Must be able to see differences between colors, shades and brightness
  13. Exposed to moving and/or motorized equipment, machinery, parts and electricity that require safety protocols
  14. Must be able to speak clearly so others can understand
  15. Must be able to understand the speech of others
  16. Must be able to hear sounds and recognize the difference between them
  17. Must be able to focus on one source of sound and ignore others
  18. Must be able to determine from which direction a sound came
  19. Must be able to use critical PPE correctly
  20. Exposed to job site temperature fluctuations due to seasonal weather based on geographic region.
