The Controls Consultant is responsible for the management, creation and delivery of the controls solution and pricing during the bidding process for Direct Sales and Retrofit projects. Supporting the Sales and design teams they will ensure the controls solutions are in line with the Commander standards wherever possible and any deviations from this are highlighted and reviewed for suitability.
They are to ensure that all US, National, TGW and Customer standards are adhered to as part of the design and costing of the solution. Ensure that the solution costs are reviewed, verified and meet required group margins.
Assist in the development and implementation of technical solutions and provide assistance to the PrMC Controls in the delivery of the projects when required.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the on-time delivery of the controls solution and costing for TGW US sales bids (both direct sales and retrofit).
- Responsibility starts from project bid and ends with at the end of the controls delivery of the project.
- Support and work on global, local controls strategic initiatives.
- Creation and update of KPI’s to measure sales costs against actual costs, reviewed at multiple defined points in the project delivery.
- Contribute and manage a project risk register for each project assigned.
- Ongoing coordination with (communication between) customers, other departments of the implementation process, adjacent processes, and suppliers
- Responsible for the creation of the documentation for the controls element of the bid.
- Interface and other controls related discussions with the customer or other suppliers when required
- Specification and clarification of control interfaces to third-party works as part of the cost generation
- Ensure the implementation of all relevant US, Company and Customer standards.
- Training of new assigned employees and become the go-to person and mentor for the Controls Consultant, Sales team and PrMC on costing control.
- Create and maintain relationship with other TGW hubs to review and benchmark TGW US cost models
- Explore ways in which TGW US can deliver controls projects in a more efficient and cost effective manner
- Ensure a clean handover of the project solution and costs to the PrMC
- Lessons learned are fed back into the costing models to ensure future margin integrity
Requirements Profile
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum of 5 years in relevant work experience with diverse intralogistics systems at varying levels of automation
- Strong experience in the design and delivery of controls systems
- Project Management experience gained within an engineering environment
- Previous experience of site installation and management
- Skilled in using AutoCAD to understand mechanical and electrical drawings
- Ability to lead and motivate teams of people, both internal teams and sub-contractors
- Highly customer focused with excellent communications skills
- Background in Material Handling/Automation Industry
- Reliable, cost awareness and flexibility
- Customer orientated, technical product knowledge, realization process knowledge and adjacent processes
- Shows initiative and is a decision maker
- Tools (Microsoft Office, Navision, ACAD, Budget, Doxis)
- Specialized knowledge (sensor / actuator technology, control and electrical engineering, logistics)
- Ability to travel 10-20% of the time
