Controls Commissioning Engineer

Location: Grand Rapids, MI

Job Type: Full-time, in-person, exempt 

Travel: 70-90% (domestic and international)

Base Salary: $65,000 entry-level, more based on experience

Job Duties

The Controls Commissioning Engineer works with a team of Controls Commissioning Engineers to design and integrate controls systems for industrial material-handling solutions and production lines.  The Controls Commissioning Engineer will: 

  • Assist in the design, development, and commissioning of control systems using PLCs and HMIs to meet project requirements
  • Write and debug PLC code and HMI applications to ensure proper functioning of control systems
  • Integrate control systems with other components such as sensors, actuators, and communication networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, etc.)
  • Conduct in-house emulation testing to verify system performance and troubleshoot any issues that arise prior to going onsite for commissioning
  • Provide support for installed systems, performing preventative maintenance and implementing system upgrades as required
  • Create and maintain documentation of controls commissioning activities
  • Travel to projects both domestically and internationally

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Controls-related field (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science) - OR - associate degree with equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems
  • Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical principles, with the ability to read e-drawings and AutoCAD drawings
  • Familiarity with industrial automation and control systems
  • Willingness and ability to travel 70-90%, domestically and internationally
  • Knowledge of Siemens TIA Portal and C++ or other programming language a bonus
