POSITION SUMMARY

 

Chadwick School is looking for new leaders for our students in various Athletic programs who are dynamic, energetic and highly organized.  These individuals must not only be deeply knowledgeable about the sport they are selected to coach and running a successful tennis program, but they must also have a strong ability to foster deep relationships with student-athletes. We are looking for a coaches who teach and demonstrate our core values at all times. Our programs need leaders who are skilled communicators and who can help us continue our success in all of our programs.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

The individual selected as a coach of one of our teams at Chadwick School is responsible for leading the program and developing students of character while supporting and upholding the School’s mission. The coaches and staff must teach, develop, and inspire the student-athletes, as well as give timely and pertinent feedback to improve both individual and team performance.

 

These positions require experienced coaches who has strong organizational skills and can bring fresh new ideas to the program.

 

  • Manage all aspects of the program at all times
  • Manage and supervise any assistant coaches
  • Strong technical and tactical knowledge of the sport
  • Committed to building a character first program   
  • The ability to communicate effectively to students, parents and alumni
  • Teach relevant skills, tactics, and techniques consistent with safe and effective play
  • Improve performance by providing feedback to individual players and the team
  • Manage equipment and facilities related to the program
  • Communicate efficiently and timely with parent concerns
  • Attend all pertinent CIF, Prep League and Chadwick School meetings pertaining to Athletics
  • Demonstrate conduct consistent with Chadwick’s Core Values
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

 

Qualifications:

 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Prior negotiating and contract experience is required.  Prior experience successfully coaching a high school sport is at times required and always preferred.  Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google. 

 

  • Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Must have excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, be flexible, and have professional work ethics.
  • Must be able to interact effectively with others, and work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Must demonstrate initiative in handling multiple priorities and have good time management skills.
  • Must be motivated, self-starting, willing to take initiative and responsibility.
  • Must be flexible with schedule, and willing to travel when required.
  • Must hold personal and business-sensitive information in confidence.
  • Three years’ experience as a Head Coach preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong conflict resolution
  • Excellent collegiality, professionalism, and organizational ability
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Strong understanding of the culture and goals of independent schools
  • Ability to work well with teenagers and their parents
  • Ability to use sound judgment and work independently

 

For head coach positions, Bachelor’s degree required, an advanced degree is a plus for all other coaching positions a Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Compensation is $18-$35 depending on the position (Head or Assistant Coach), years of experience coaching and highest degree earned.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

  • Required to lift and carry up to a maximum of 25 lbs., in a correct manner consistent with the appropriate training provided by the School.
  • Occasionally required to use hand to handle or feel objects, touch and use tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, grasp, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, grasp, talk, hear, and walk during the course of employment.
  • Walking and being outdoors for somewhat extended periods of time on a regular basis is part of the job as the school sits on 45 acres of land.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to adjust focus.
  • May use telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment in the course of a day.
  • Required to sit while operating word processing equipment for up to 6-8 hours daily, repetitive motion for typing and other keystroke needs.
