Position Title: Robotics Coach

Reports to: Innovation and Design Chair

Receives Guidance & Support From: Directors of Teaching and Learning, Division Directors

Collaborates closely With: Other Robotics coaches, Innovation and Design, and program leaders

Supports: Robotics students in Middle and Upper School

 

POSITION SUMMARY

This job supervises and coaches teams of robotics students in the Middle and Upper School as they work to compete in this year’s VEX competition. The Robotics Coach must teach, mentor, and inspire the students, as well as provide feedback to improve both individual and team performance. Additionally, the Coach must make safety a top priority.

ASSOCIATED RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coach and mentor Middle and Upper School students as they work on their robots
  • Supervise build sessions in the afternoons (6-15 hours per week), primarily after school hours.
  • Collaboratively maintain and develop curriculum as needed with other coaches.
  • Teach using student-centered and driven, experiential, and differentiated methods, in line with Chadwick philosophies.
  • Help maintain and organize the robotics lab.
  • Occasional travel to local 1 day weekend tournaments (About 8 times a year)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Potential travel to Vex Robotics State and World Competitions
  • Supervise summer build sessions
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education, experience and skill requirements

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCES, AND SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English are required.
  • A deep and broad knowledge of the subjects to be taught is required, including readiness to teach programming.
  • Experience with VEX robotics systems preferred, but not necessary.
  • Teaching or experience working with students is preferred.
  • A student-centered, global, and innovative approach to teaching is preferred.

 

Compensation:  Anticipated range $25.00 - $60.00 based on qualifications and experience 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT

  • Required to lift and carry up to a maximum of 25 lbs., in a correct manner consistent with the appropriate training provided by the School.
  • Occasionally required to use hand to handle or feel objects, touch and use tools, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, twist, lift, reach, push, pull, grasp, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, grasp, talk, hear, and walk during the course of employment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and an ability to adjust focus.
  • May use telephone, computer, copier, and other office equipment in the course of a day.
  • Required to sit while operating word processing equipment for up to 6-8 hours daily, repetitive motion for typing and other keystroke needs.
