POSITION SUMMARY

The Employee Health LPN will follow the Joint Commission (TJC), Arizona Department of Health and Services (ADHS), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), and other regulatory agency requirements regarding employee health practices. Additionally, the LPN will identify health hazards and risks in the workplace and promote good overall health. [AF1]

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Valid AZ LPN License i[AF1] n good standing is required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in healthcare required.
  • Valid, unrestricted AZ Driver’s License required
  • Employee health/occupational health experience preferred.
  • Electronic Medical Record experience preferred; NextGen experience strongly preferred
  • Certification to perform cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Health Care Professional (CPR) and AED through courses that follow the guidelines from the American Heart Association and Red Cross (cognitive and skills evaluations)
  • Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety for all specialty behavioral health locations or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) laws preferred
  • Highly detail-oriented and capable of developing innovative solutions to complex issues using available and custom tools. 
  • An ability to work independently, exercise creativity, and maintain a positive attitude. 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize tasks without compromising the quality of work.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of employee health records. 
  • Comply with the organization’s immunization requirements.  
  • Competency in working with people of various cultures
  • Ability to perform a variety of assignments requiring considerable exercise of independent judgment

 

 

 

POSITION REPONSIBILITIES

Incident Management

  • Collaborate with Key stakeholders to:
  • Investigate employee health-related incidents reported to the incident management database. 
  • Determine root cause and contributing factors
  • Analyze data trends and develop action plans to comply with state and federal regulations.

Compliance

  • Assist the Registered Nurse with ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements related to:
  • The completion of required HCP vaccinations, including declinations and exemptions
  • Tuberculosis screening and testing
  • Respiratory Protection Program guidelines, including volunteer respirator attestations and Quantitative Fit Tests
  • Communicable disease guidance
  • Color blindness screening
  • The placement of Lab orders for new and current employees
  • The placement of Chest X-ray orders for new and current employees
  • Review of ASIIS vaccine records
  • OSHA 300/300A documentation associated with reportable employee work-related injuries
  • Appropriately creating, maintaining, and updating employee health files
  • Filing and maintenance of employee health records required for the State Book 

Education and Training[MT2] [AF3] 

  • Stay current with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide information and reinforce education (under the supervision of the registered nurse) for the following:
    • Employee Health Program requirements and workplace safety practices before and during orientation.
    • Ergonomic concerns related to their work duties. 
    • Work-related injuries and exposures
    • Post-exposure testing and treatment
    • Vaccine Education
    • Communicable disease guidance
  • Implement Employee Health program Standing Orders following the Standing Orders policy and procedure. 

Data Analysis

  • Collect and analyze data related to:
    • Communicable diseases
    • Vaccine compliance
    • Vaccine declinations and exemptions
    • Work-related injuries and exposure (reportable and non-reportable)
  • Create Analytic reports and present data weekly, monthly, and quarterly during meetings
  • Contribute to the Quality committee and Safety Committee preparation through collaboration with the Director of Quality, Infection Prevention and Control, and Safety and Clinical Risk Manager

Collaboration

  • Communicate with employees to promote a culture of safety
  • Collaborate with People Services in the evaluation of health education/promotion needs of employees.
  • Collaborate with Key stakeholders on the annual Respiratory Vaccine Campaign
  • Collaborate with People Services on the monitoring of occupational health visit documentation and clearance to return to work. 
  • Collaborate with the Chief Clinical Officer and/or the Associate Chief Medical Officer to develop standing orders following the components
    • condition for use
    • assessment
    • subjective findings
    • objective findings
    • plan of care
    • criteria for contacting a provider

Survey Readiness

  • Assist with employee health initiatives associated with regulatory agency surveys
  • If applicable, participate in workgroups to address or improve regulatory requirement initiatives
  • If applicable, develop and maintain robust documentation and reporting of the following employee health:
    • Action plans
    • CQIs
    • RCA
    • Process Mapping
    • Other employee Health associated activities

Program Oversight

  • Collaborate with the Employee Health/ Infection Prevention & Control Manager, Director of Quality, and Associate Chief Medical Officer in the annual evaluation of the Employee Health Program annually.  The program evaluation includes:
    • Annual risk assessment with key stakeholders
    • Employee Health program goals
    • Measuring health outcomes
    • Employee Feedback
    • Incident management
    • Regulatory requirements compliance rates
    • Analyzing healthcare costs
  • Annual Respiratory Vaccine Campaign

Management Plans

  • Provides recommendations and assists with Risk assessments for the following plans
    • Infection Prevention and Control Plan, in collaboration with Infection Prevention and Control Manager (ICM)
      • Identify Annual Influenza and COVID-19 vaccine goals and compliance rates, and immunization completion
      • Complete annual Infection Control Goals pertaining to Employee health
      • Monitor employee tuberculosis screening and testing conversions
      • Complete the annual Infection Prevention and Control Risk Assessment employee health section
      • Provide the ICM with annual employee sharps and Splash injuries data

 

 

NONESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) or more years’ experience in a Community Health Center

Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for long periods of time, is required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb steps/stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; smell; manage stress as it relates to essential job functions.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance and may occasionally be required to lift or move up to 50 pounds with assistance.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time when traveling to various clinic sites.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee may be subject to health hazards (contagious diseases, blood borne pathogens, etc.) when working in the clinic area.
