What are the duties and responsibilities?

Health Assessments:

  • Conduct health assessments and screenings as required.
  • Monitor and document students' health conditions.

First Aid and Emergency Response:

  • Administer first aid and emergency care as needed.
  • Follow established protocols for handling medical emergencies.

Medication Administration:

  • Administer prescribed medications to students according to physician instructions.
  • Maintain accurate records of medication administration.

Health Education:

  • Provide health education and guidance to students and staff.
  • Promote health and wellness initiatives within the school community.

Communication:

  • Communicate with parents, teachers, and school staff regarding students' health concerns.
  • Collaborate with administrators and teachers to address health-related issues.

Health Records Management:

  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records for students.
  • Ensure compliance with health documentation requirements.

Health Screenings:

  • Conduct vision, hearing, and other health screenings as mandated.
  • Refer students for further evaluation as needed.

Collaboration with Healthcare Professionals:

  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, social workers, and other professionals as required.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and 504 plans.

Infection Control:

  • Implement infection control measures and promote a healthy school environment.
  • Follow guidelines for disease prevention and control.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) 
  • Willingness to go through and pass the required clearances and training to ensure the safety and security of our children, including: mandated reporter training, a physical, and TB test. This can typically be accomplished within a week to get you started.
  • Capacity for sitting, standing, walking, bending and stopping for long periods of time, as these happen throughout the eight-hour day.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Experience in school nursing or pediatric nursing preferred.
  • Knowledge of state and local health regulations and guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to different school settings.
  • Completed background check and health screenings as required.
