University School of Nashville seeks a dynamic, student-centered educator with expertise in the science of learning and learning differences as well as experience supporting high school students’ learning partnerships with teachers. Together with the High School Director of Learning Support, the Learning Specialist will:

  • Provide one-on-one and small-group interventions to develop students’ executive functioning, metacognitive skills, and use of effective learning strategies
  • Support teachers’ efforts to effectively engage the full spectrum of students in their classes with pedagogical strategies informed by brain-mind-educational science and an understanding of different cognitive profiles
  • Work with students who have diagnosed learning differences and their parents to determine needed academic support and accommodations. Write a Student Success Plan, and serve as a liaison between teachers, students, and families in the implementation of the plan
  • Assist families with referrals to community-based providers when needed for tutoring, therapy, and/or evaluation

This is a 0.80 FTE position for the 2025-2026 school year. Candidates should be comfortable with working with students who have a variety of learning profiles. Preference will be given to educators with experience teaching high school students and creating effective, inclusive learning environments. The ideal candidate is expected to embrace the idea that all students at USN have the potential to be successful in their own way. Colleagues at USN are asked to actively participate in the life of the high school in ways that showcase their talents, gifts, and identities.

USN has a deep commitment to equitable and just community spaces. Candidates should be knowledgeable of research on how implicit biases in race, ethnicity, gender identity, and socioeconomic class can shape curricula and pedagogy, classroom culture, and student outcomes. Candidates should be able to translate that knowledge into demonstrable actions that promote equitable and just teaching and learning.
