Description

The Junior Sous Chef at the Adobe Bar & Grille plays a vital role in maintaining high standards of food quality and 5-star service. This position is responsible for assisting the Executive Chef and Sous Chef in daily kitchen operations, ensuring food preparation, cooking, and presentation meet the operations elevated standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and training cooks.
  • Overseeing food preparation, ensuring consistency, and adhering to health and safety standards.
  • Helping manage inventory, ordering supplies, and maintaining kitchen equipment.
  • Ensuring efficient kitchen operations during peak periods, especially for high-volume banquets and special events.
  • Collaborating with other departments (like service staff) to ensure a seamless dining experience for guests.
  • Stepping in for the Sous Chef or Executive Chef when necessary, ensuring smooth operation and maintaining service standards.

Other:

  • May be scheduled to work at banquet events.
  • May participate in pre-shift meetings, taste tests, and training.
  • Wash dishes and pots, operating dish washing equipment, and distribute and store clean dishes and pots.
  • Conform with all safety standards and use of all appropriate safety equipment.
  • Follow good personal hygiene guidelines.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.

In this role, the Junior Sous Chef is crucial for upholding the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club's reputation for exceptional food quality and customer service. They gain experience while supporting the leadership team and advancing their culinary career.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Culinary degree or certification from a recognized culinary school is preferred but not required.
  • Minimum two year's cooking (line and/or prep) experience in a full-service restaurant.
  • Previous lead or working supervisory experience required.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of cooking techniques, culinary terminology, and food safety standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and prioritize tasks under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for creating delicious and visually appealing dishes.
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration:  Ability to collaborate with kitchen staff and other restaurant staff
  • Strong communication skills including effective listening.
  • Highly organized to manage multiple orders
  • Flexible and adaptable to changes in workflow, menu items, staff, etc.
  • Ability to remain calm during peak hours or challenging guests.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of food cooking regulations.

Computer Skills

Required:

  • Ability to use Point of Sale (POS) System
  • Ability to use employee self-service on company’s human resources/payroll database

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Required: Position may utilize golf carts; thus, must have a valid driver’s license.

Unexpired Arizona food certifications. Must be at least 19 years of age.

Regular attendance is required. Additional hours including weekends may be required on a regular basis to fulfill duties of position. At times, an individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.

The work environment is subject to interruptions, varying and unpredictable situations and time pressures related to multiple tasks. It also requires regular use of a point-of-sale terminal. There is extensive repetitive motion in using hands/wrists.

Work Environment

This position primarily works both indoors and outdoors. At times, extreme temperatures may be part of the environment.

Work requires exposure to temperatures sufficiently high to cause bodily discomfort. The noise level is usually moderate.

Schedules vary and may include weekends, holidays, etc. as determined by business needs.

OSHA Category

Category I: Position engages in activities that with a high risk of coming into direct contact with blood and body fluids for which specific precautions must be taken. This position has been identified as Category I as it is most likely to attend to kitchen burns, accidents, or injuries.
