Job Summary:
Practices autonomously and in accordance with professional nursing standards, within the parameters of the Illinois Nursing and Advanced Nursing Practice Act, and within the policies and procedures of Anderson Hospital. Holds primary responsibility for development, coordination and implementation of the AHA courses, including BLS and ACLS and classes that are provided through the Education Department. Responsible for the provision and facilitation of the orientation of new employees and continuing education of hospital staff. Supports Nursing Preceptor Program and provides input for the recruitment and retention of nurses. Assists with the coordination and implementation of staff education, including annual continuing education requirements, HealthStream courses, Skills Day, and other educational activities. Assists with community education programs as directed.
Job Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates flexibility to meet staffing needs of department/organization.
- Utilizes computer programs, Microsoft Office products and Meditech appropriately and efficiently. (includes appropriate documentation of patient care)
- Assists Education Department with Hospital Orientation and Patient Care/Nursing Orientation, including the Preceptor Program.
- Teaches ACLS and BLS as needed to supplement course offerings at Anderson while maintaining competency as an instructor.
- Develops, implements, and/or coordinates educational programs to facilitate staff development and/or validate staff competency.
- Assists with HealthStream programs including developing programs, maintaining accurate records, troubleshooting problems, assisting with department reports, and communicating updates with departments.
- Recognizes age/population specific considerations when developing and providing education to the staff and community.
- Engages in activities to expand and/or enhance the professional nursing role, which includes integration of research and evidence-based practice.
- Provides leadership and autonomy in the professional practice setting and the profession.
- Conducts Mock Codes and simulation to promote critical thinking and experiential learning
- Assists with Performance Improvement activities on MedSurg.
- Engages in unit-based initiatives to enhance patient experience.
- Contributes to education and competency as outlined by regulatory requirements.
- Develops and outlines opportunities for ongoing professional development.
- Conducts preceptor conferences with new employees and preceptors.
- Facilitates ongoing partnership with academia for student placement and clinical experience on Med-Surg.
- Contributes to departmental huddles.
- Acts as a Resource for staff.
- Provides leadership and autonomy in the professional practice setting and the profession.
- Attends and contributes to departmental staff meetings and shared-governance councils.
- Keeps up-to-date with clinical practice and evidence-based practice guidelines.
- Stays abreast of organizational policies and procedures and is a resource to others in the department.
