Description

 

Job Summary: Practices autonomously and in accordance with the professional nursing standards, within the parameters of the Illinois Nurse Practice Act, and within the policies and procedures of Anderson Hospital.  Provides care to patients receiving endoscopy procedures. Is responsible for the interviewing, assessment, and screening of endoscopy patients.  Provides guidance and direction to the Endoscopy Technician.  Takes call for unscheduled endoscopy procedures.

Job Responsibilities:

 

  1. Supports patient’s rights and responsibilities, including respect of cultural, ethical and religious diversity.
  2. Provides age-appropriate and population specific patient care in a safe, skillful, accurate and efficient manner to adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
  3. Assesses patient and family learning needs and provides ongoing education and evaluation.  Documents readiness to learn, teaching barriers and outcomes.
  4. Completes documentation accurately and appropriately in a timely manner, according to hospital policies and procedures. 
  5. Effectively utilizes the nursing process to ensure optimal nursing care and patient outcomes.
  6. Engages in activities to expand and/or enhance the professional nursing role, which includes integration of research and evidence based practice.
  7. Demonstrates flexibility to meet department, organization and patient/family needs.

  1. Follows principles of aseptic technique.
  2. Performs department maintenance duties.
  3. Demonstrates competency of pre-operative, post-operative, and intra-operative responsibilities as indicated in department.
  4. Demonstrates competency of circulating as applicable to hiring agreement.
  5. Delegates responsibilities to appropriate health care team members and monitors their activity and work performance.
  6. Participates in follow-op phone calls for Endoscopy patients.
  7. Participates in interviewing, assessment, and screening of Endoscopy patients.
  8. Orders lab work appropriately and initiates appropriate orders.
  9. Accurately completes the PAT/Pre-op Checklist.
  10. Independently follows up on appropriate needs for patients.
  11. Is responsible for taking Endoscopy call and maintains technical skills relating to scopes/processors/Medivators (as applicable to hiring agreement).
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education Requirements and Other Requirements:

 

Education Level:  Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

 

Certification/Licensure:  Illinois licensed or eligible.  BLS certification required.  ACLS certification required or completed within one year. 

 

Experience Requirements:  Prior nursing experience with moderate sedation and cardiac monitoring preferred.  Critical care experience preferred.        

 

Working Conditions: Exposure Category I: Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.  All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or a potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I tasks.  Use of appropriate protective measures should be required for every employee engaged in Category I tasks.
