This role offers the flexibility of remote work, however, it requires regular in-person attendance at our downtown Austin office for team meetings and collaborations, typically at least twice a month.
Position Overview
The Claims Examiner II provides all aspects of claims examination, from coverage verification to closure, for auto and general liability coverages issued by the TAC Risk Management Pool (TAC RMP) as set forth in the Claims Standards & Procedures. Requires frequent and professional communication, both written and verbal, with Risk Management Services (RMS) and other TAC staff, TAC RMP members, and vendors.
Essential Job Functions
- Investigate coverage and assess liability issues based on review of applicable coverage document, endorsements, laws and related information for TAC RMP’s Auto and General Liability coverages.
- Assess vehicle damage and control the damage repair process; make total loss determinations; evaluate injury claims; and actively manage independent appraiser relationships.
- Recommend and supervise defense counsel, develop effective and responsible defense strategies, negotiate settlements, and make payment recommendations.
- Initiate and monitor cost recovery action as appropriate, including subrogation, restitution, and salvage proceeds.
- Attend claims-related events such as mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences, and trials.
- Attend and/or present training and education courses and represent TAC and TAC RMP at TAC-sponsored and TAC-affiliated member organization conferences.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
