Description

SUMMARY:  The Millwright will perform installations of machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings. The Millwright will read and examine blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures. Duties could include welding, brazing, plumbing, and carpentry. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Align machines and equipment; using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs  

  • Connect piping to equipment and test unit to evaluate its mechanical operation 

  • Repair and lubricate machines and equipment 

  • Assemble and install equipment using hand tools and power tools 

  • Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts using hand tools and measuring instruments to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts 

  • Move machinery and equipment using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks  

  • Attach moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly unit using hand tools and power tools 

  • Assemble machines and bolt, weld, rivet, or otherwise fasten them to the foundation or other structures using hand tools and power tools  

  • Make and install chutes and guards for production equipment 

  • Lay out mounting holes using measuring instruments and drill holes with power drill 

  • Dismantle machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools 

  • Shrink-fit bushing sleeves, ring liners, gears, and wheels to specified items; using portable gas heating equipment  

  • Dismantle machinery and equipment for shipment to installation site 

  • Construct foundation for machines using hand tools and building materials; such as wood, cement, and steel 

  • Develop specifications from general descriptions and produce sketches of parts or products 

  • Assist in trouble shooting equipment in plant  

  • Assist in facility maintenance audits 

  • Install new equipment in the plant.  This includes learning operations, adjustments, and repairs. 

  • Replace defective parts of machine 

  • Adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts in a machine 

  • Follow proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with State and Federal laws 

  • All other duties as assigned 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED); or years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and write; ability to read and comprehend technical instructions and manuals; ability to read and draw mechanical drawings, short correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to write simple correspondence.  Must have the ability to analyze technical procedures. Ability to effectively present information in one-on one and small group situations.  

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must have the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.  

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems and collect data to establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
