Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Payments Specialist to join our team. As a Payments Specialist, you will be responsible for managing and analyzing chargeback data to ensure accurate processing and reporting. This role involves detailed analysis of transaction data, trend identification, and providing actionable insights to reduce chargeback volumes. Additional duties will include processing and reconciling chargebacks and ACH returns, disputing chargebacks, auditing and research, and ensuring all dispute processes are up to date.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Provide guidance and training to junior team members.
  • Work closely with other departments as well as vendors to ensure seamless dispute resolution processes.
  • Review and process incoming chargeback disputes and determine their validity based on transaction evidence and merchant provided documentation.
  • Ensure all actions comply with relevant regulations, such as Regulations E for electronic funds transfer.
  • Maintain detailed records of all disputes cases and resolutions.
  • Identify and lead process improvements as well as growth integration initiatives.
  • Submit compelling evidence packages to financial institutions to dispute chargebacks on behalf of our merchants.
  • Calculate and report on chargeback ratios, trends, and recovery rates. Provide insights and recommendations to management for reducing overall chargeback volumes.
  • Review and sign off on audit reports and ensure all monthly chargebacks are accurately recorded and reconciled.
  • Pull reporting from bank systems including bank statements and ACH return and NOC reports.
  • Ensure accurate account balances by reconciling payments and resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate with merchants on inquiries regarding chargebacks and returns.
  • Refine and update chargeback processes and procedures to comply with evolving regulations and standards.

Qualifications

Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Mid-Senior level Payments Specialist or similar role.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze transaction data and identify patterns and discrepancies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication for interacting with customers, banks, and merchants.
  • Ability to work independently and also collaborate with a team.
  • Knowledge of chargeback & ACH return guidelines and policies set by card networks and financial institutions.
  • Ability to handle sensitive customer information with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Excel and strong reporting skills are essential
