POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the safe delivery and pick-up of patients and potential patients to and from the centers and their homes. Responsibilities include driving a 18 to 22 foot van. Requires operation of van within the La Colonia Medical Center guidelines.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides member transportation to and from their homes, clinics and various appointments according to established safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Receives calls from Dispatcher to pick up member at the clinic, and plans his/her day so that assignments can be completed as quickly as possible.
  • Drives to various locations to pick up and deliver a wide variety of items such as checks, mail, packages, letters, supplies and so forth.
  • Assists members, including handicapped, in and out of the vehicle; operates ramps, and securement devise as needed
  • Identifies and recommends options for route improvements to management as appropriate.
  • Read and interprets maps and driving directions to plan the most efficient route service for members, and reads and interprets road signs in English
  • Presents safety briefing to passengers prior to each trip departure
  • Ensures good customer relations by consistently picking up members on time and behaving with integrity in a courteous and professional manner.
  • May take note of and possibly resolve member complaints. Reports more complex issues and complaints to the Transportation Supervisor for resolution. Observes and reports any pertinent issues at customer sites.
  • Performs all duties and functions with the goal to achieve OSHA-related targets for reportable incidents and lost time incidents.
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets or Mobile data terminal, customer transportation forms that show pick-up and delivery times, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other reports requested by management
  • Responds immediately to accident or medical emergencies by notifying emergency response providers and rendering First Aid or CPR until emergency personnel arrives.
  • Must adhere to traffic laws and conduct vehicle in a safe manner when in driving in difficult road conditions
  • Calls patients the night before to confirm pick-up
  • Vehicle related responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Maintains Clinic van in good, clean operating order by regularly washing and refueling

vehicle(s). No­tifies Supervisor of repairs and service needs while performing minor

maintenance tasks on vehicle as required.

-Participates in monthly/quarterly/annual training for, OSHA, Driver Safety, Customer Service and Compliance training

  • Remains updated with all annually revised regulatory standards (OSHA).
  • Maintains a satisfactory driving record.
  • Operates material-handling equipment safely and efficiently according to established procedures as required.
  • May be on call nights and weekends to assist with same day bookings
  • Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job as directed

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Lifting and assisting of members 25 -50 pounds on a repetitive basis as required. Some deliveries may require carrying product up multiple flights of stairs. This position requires extended periods of sitting and standing. Operation of van may average 8 to 12 hours per day.

High school Diploma or Equivalent

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 1 to 3 years driver experience, preferably in route deliveries
  • Must enjoy working with the elderly
  • Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record
  • Must poses a Class E license
  • Experience with on-board computers, paperless DOT logs and/or electronic capture applications preferred
  • English/Spanish preferred
  • Days of work and hours are subject to change based on departmental and/or organizational needs.

LANGUAGE ABILITY

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATH ABILITY

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
