JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for ensuring that all program participants are provided with clean, safe, and well-maintained apartments.  Position will oversee up to 90 apartments in Mt. Vernon and New Rochelle with light maintenance and turnovers for new participants moving in.

Schedule: Monday- Friday 9am-5pm (Full Time)

Location: Mt. Vernon and New Rochelle, NY

Salary: $48,000-$54,000. 

FSLA: Non-exempt. Overtime eligible. 

 

JOB-RELATED DUTIES – ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

           These duties are essential and specific to the successful implementation of this position.

  • Ensures all EHAP units are in meet housing quality standards, safe and are good working order
  • Ensuring all general building and property repairs are completed in a correct, timely and efficient manner, including but not limited to: repairing leaking faucets and toilets, performing cosmetic repairs within/outside of apartments and buildings, performing painting, repairing or replacing locks, and performing minor appliance repairs
  • Serving as a role model for interacting with DSS, town officials and inspectors, tenants and CHI customers
  • Performing general property maintenance including snow removal, salt disbursement, and general yard work, if needed
  • Cleaning CHI owned and leased EHAP vacant apartments and appliances for re-occupancy purposes
  • Performing minor renovation projects and installs appliances
  • Assisting with EHAP furniture delivery and set up. Remove damaged furniture from unit and building.
  • Coordinating repairs with EHAP staff and outside landlords.
  • Reviewing the status of maintenance/repair projects for each property and makes requests for any additional materials needed at that time.
  • Maintaining schedule with CHI customers, can complete tasks while receiving multiple work orders
  • Immediately informs Manager of any safety or health hazard(s) found at the premises

Qualifications

ENTRY LEVEL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Education:  High School diploma/GED, college preferred
  • Experience: Two years of experience working in a related field such as a Super, Handyperson, construction, or building management. Ability to relate to the underserved, homeless, disabled populations, and assess multi-generational needs. Completing unit inspections and ensuring housing quality standards
  • Certificates or Licenses: Valid driver’s license. 
  • May Need to Drive to other CHI locations upon request
  • Insurance:  Valid automobile insurance
  • Communication:  Professional verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in English required. Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.
  • Computer Skills:  Professional competency in MS Windows, MS Office, and on the Internet.
  • Math Skills:  Ability to perform simple equations
  • Physical Performance:  Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects (up to 50lbs), tour property, walk distances, and climb stairs
  • Reasoning Ability:  Ability to prioritize, make appropriate decisions and judgment calls.
  • Other requirements: Should preferably own a set of “handy persons’ tools” 
  • Other Skills: 
    • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Highly organized, attentive to details, productive under pressure, multitasking, and flexible.
    • Ability to oversee multiple projects and juggle competing deadlines.
    • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism at all times.
