Description

Responsible for supervision of youth and coordination of activities at camp. During each camp session, the Counselor is assigned and responsible for a small group of male campers, allowing interaction and rapport development with individual cabin campers. Living in the cabin with male campers for the entire camp session is required, which includes supervising the group.

*This Position begins June 28th and ends July 25th. Must be available full length of camp.*

Starting Pay: $17.81

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

  • Live in the cabin with the campers serving as a role model and support system.
  • Provide supervision and assistance in all aspects of the campers daily routine including but not limited to: meals, cabin clean up, camper hygiene, rest hour, behavior management).
  • Lead campers to and from activities while providing constant encouragement and positive reinforcement.
  • Carry out a productive curriculum that enhances the campers experience.
  • Ensure positive and appropriate camper-staff and camper-camper relationships and interactions.
  • Inspect activity areas, ensure no hazards are present, and set boundaries.
  • Follow standards (safety and programming) set forth by ACA (American Camping Association)
  • Follow and enforce YMCA Camp E.L.K. policies and procedures, safety standards and rules at all times.
  • Carry out all responsibilities in an honest, ethical and professional manner.
  • Display professionalism with proper hygiene.
  • Arrive on time and be prepared for all activities.
  • Report all accidents, illnesses and incidents to the Camp Nurse and/or Program Director in a timely manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Certifications & Experience Required:

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications (will be able to obtain during staff training).
  • Completion of camp training session required.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Able to aid in facilitating an empowering organized program through teaching encouragement and support.
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
  • Willing and able to work in a physically and mentally demanding environment on a daily basis.
