SUMMARY:

The Composites Technician Leader directs the department tasks and assists in the fabrication and assembly of all plastic properties designed and/or built at Prefix Corporation.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

   

  • Must have the skill to direct and motivate the Composite Technicians in their daily tasks.
  • Knowledge in, as well as assists in the preparation of models to be cast in material determined by the customer or Prefix; this includes splitting the model and prepping the model for the predetermined molding material.
  • Directs and assists the team in the fabrication of fiberglass parts out of epoxy or polyester based laminates.
  • Directs and assists in the formation of a variety of plastic sheeting using high heat and vacuum to form a specified plastic around a supplied or an in-house fabricated tool. 
  • Directs and assists in the formation of acrylics into specified shapes and sizes that are later fit onto a vehicle by a qualified installer.
  • Direct glue up and assist in the gluing up of boards that are used to mill models or tooling for prototype parts and molds.
  • Develop and improve strategies with the team in regards to composite lay-up schedules.

 

 

Qualifications

Knowledge of plastic model making with 5 or more years’ experience.  Ability to follow direction and work within predetermined timelines established within the job quote.  High School or GED equivalent required.  A certificate from an accredited technical or an industrial trade school is preferred.  Needs to be a self-starter with proficiency in budgeting time.  Incumbent must possess basic hand tools for the position and upgrade such tools as required to complete the tasks assigned.

Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
