Position Summary
The Physician Assistant is a member of the interdisciplinary health care which functions to meet the objectives of the programs in Northeast Community Clinic. The Physician Assistant will be responsible for providing complete clinical care for all patients under the direction of one or more supervising licensed physician(s), including the Medical Director, and by written protocols. The Physician Assistant works in conjunction with the Medical Director in implementing and maintaining quality care programs.
A Physician Assistant may provide those medical services which:
(1) He or she is competent to perform, as determined by the supervising physician,
(2) Are consistent with his/her education, training, and experience, and
(3) Are delegated in writing by the supervising physician responsible for the patients cared for by the PA.
Schedule:
Flexible, may require some evening and weekends
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Elicits patient medical and social history, performs a review of systems, initiates lab and Radiological test and studies, provides health teaching and counseling, monitors and manages stabilized chronic conditions; additionally may perform simple laboratory test such as wet mounts.
Reviews chart findings and exercises of services in accordance with established NECC Management, CHDP, State Office of Family Planning, Los Angeles Regional Family Planning Council, and other medical standards and guidelines.
With appropriate training, prescribes and dispenses packaged, pre-labeled medications under protocol and refers and follows up on patients in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
Consults with other members of the health care team regarding individual needs of specific patients, provides support for recommended actions and refers patients to appropriate clinic and/or community resources.
Supervises the LVN, Medical Assistant, Community Health Worker and other staff or personnel providing direct patient care and assumes responsibility for daily clinic management.
Participates in case management meetings and staff meetings
In concert with other members of the health care team provides patient and community education classes.
Assists in the provision of in-service training of all clinical, volunteer and other personnel.
Assists in data collection for evaluation and research purposes.
Completes necessary billing forms.
Participation in Northeast Community Clinic’s continuing Quality Improvement (QI) program.
Contributes to program planning, evaluation, report preparation and development of articles.
Performs other tasks as required or as assigned by the Program Director and Medical Director.
Maintain a positive working relationship with staff.
Other duties as designated by the Medical Director or Executive Director.

Foreign body removal; ear
Foreign body removal; nose
Incision, drainage and packing of abscess
Intrauterine Device (IUD) removal (with strings showing)
Local treatment of burns and wounds
Destruction of warts
Fluorescein stain eye exam (not removal of embedded foreign body or rust stain in cornea)
