Upper and Middle School Latin Teacher

Tower Hill School is seeking a full-time Latin teacher to join our Upper and Middle School divisions for the 2025-2026 school year. The Tower Hill Language Department adheres to a communicative and student-centered approach to both classical and modern language instruction. Candidates should be able to teach beginner to advanced level Latin courses, assist in international travel programs, and organize student participation in an annual Latin Day student festival. They should have expertise in content, including teaching methods and assessment practices, and experience connecting language study to cultural, historical, political, and other interdisciplinary topics pertinent to the study of classical language study. In addition, the ideal candidate should demonstrate enthusiasm for connecting the study of Latin to modern life and more generally inspiring curiosity in students.

 

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Teach four to five sections of Latin in the Middle and Upper Schools
    • Courses typically include: MS Latin 7 & 8 (a two-year level 1 course), Latin 2, Latin 3, and Advanced Seminars
  • Utilize a variety of pedagogical approaches and instructional technologies to enhance students’ language acquisition and cultural competence
  • Provide timely feedback that promotes student growth
  • Create lessons that meet students where they are
  • Collaborate regularly with language department colleagues to evaluate pacing, assessments, and curriculum
  • Interact with parents and maintain an open dialogue with families to support student success
  • Serve as an advisor for up to 10 students
  • Engage fully with the THS community including, but not limited to, participation in all school-wide assemblies, faculty meetings, department meetings, and various faculty supervisory duties.
  • Assist with student supervision and chaperoning

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Latin or a related field (master’s degree preferred)
  • Experience teaching Latin at the secondary level (preference will be given to candidates with three or more years of teaching experience)
  • Sensitivity to the developmental stages and well-being of children 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills 
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Commitment to safeguard and promote the welfare of students
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal 
  • Enthusiasm for professional growth, academic excellence and creative teaching
  • Ability to plan and organize educational content 
  • Commitment to broad participation in school life
  • Experience in and commitment to the ongoing development and maintenance of an inclusive campus community
