Description

This position is considered Hybrid with an expectation to be in the Rosemont, IL office 1-3 times a month for All Staff Meetings, trainings, and department meetings. The compensation for this role will be based on experience within the given range on the job posting.

SUMMARY

The IT Business Analyst plays a key role in understanding business needs, gathering and documenting requirements, and ensuring work is properly triaged and assigned. This role requires adaptability, as they will work across multiple business areas and project scopes. Additionally, they may take on product owner responsibilities for one or more products as required. A strong application background is essential, as this role will be responsible for working with business applications, troubleshooting issues, and supporting enhancements to critical systems.

MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with stakeholders to gather, document, and analyze business requirements.
  • Maintain and manage work in Jira, ensuring tickets are properly triaged, categorized, and assigned to the correct queues or backlogs.
  • Manage product backlogs, work with stakeholders to prioritize features, and ensure development efforts align with business goals.
  • Act as a liaison between business stakeholders and technical teams, ensuring clear and structured communication.
  • Analyze business processes and recommend improvements for efficiency, scalability, and automation.
  • Write detailed functional specifications, process flows, and use cases that can be easily understood by development teams.
  • Support application development efforts by ensuring requirements are clearly defined and work is assigned appropriately.
  • Conduct impact assessments to evaluate the effects of proposed changes and ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and issue resolution for business applications by working closely with the development team and providing support.
  • Work directly with vendors to evaluate software solutions and integrations, ensuring compatibility with existing systems.
  • Provide training and documentation for business users on new processes, system enhancements, and best practices.
  • Write and define test scenarios for user acceptance testing (UAT) and assist in testing efforts to ensure business requirements are met and solutions function as expected before deployment.
  • Utilize business analysis software to create process maps, wireframes, and reports that enhance clarity and decision-making.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

  • A minimum of 3 years experience as a Business Analyst in IT or software development projects.
  • Strong IT application background with experience in troubleshooting, supporting, and improving business applications.
  • Experience with Jira for ticket management, backlog tracking, and reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess and optimize business processes.
  • Ability to work cross-departmentally and collaborate with individuals outside of your department.
  • Adaptibility and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical teams/individuals.
  • Experience defining and documenting business and functional requirements in a structured format.
  • Familiarity with business analysis software tools such as:
    1. Jira and Confluence for project tracking and documentation
    2. Microsoft Visio or Lucidchart for process mapping and workflow diagrams
    3. Balsamiq, Figma, Penpot, or Axure for wireframing and prototyping
    4. Microsoft Power BI or Grafana for data visualization and reporting
    5. SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), Heidi, or DBeaver for querying and analyzing data
    6. Planner, Smartsheet, or Monday.com for project and task management
    7. Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and PowerPoint for documentation and reporting
  • Familiarity data analysis tools such as SQL and SAS.
  • Experience working in hybrid softwaremdevelopment environments that combine Agile and traditional methodologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills both internally and externally with 3rd party stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Things that will set you apart:

  • Experience in the insurance industry or working with insurance-related software such as EPIC.
  • Knowledge of policy, claims, or underwriting systems.
  • Experience with Aptify, Salesforce or other similar CRM-related projects.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, IT, or similarly applicable discipline.
