WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Kids in the Game is on the lookout for enthusiastic Assistant Directors at 9-10 dynamic summer camp locations. As the right hand to the Camp Director, you will play a pivotal role in creating an amazing camp culture. Our Assistant Directors will be overseeing summer staff, and providing inspiring leadership to our spirited campers. You will be creating an atmosphere that's not just supportive and safe but fun and exciting too!
Our Admin Assistant Directors is responsible for being the Camp Directors director support for camp family communication, pre summer registrations and document collection, payments and invoices, and being the face of camp at drop off and pick up. You will be a vital part of the overall success of our camp family interactions and relationship building, plus all of our camp documents. Most importantly you will be providing a supportive, safe, and fun environment for the campers. As the Assistant Director in charge of Administration and Operations: They will report to the Camp Director and manage the camp’s operations and administration. This Assistant Director will be in charge of keeping track of weekly registration information, camp payments, helping to create weekly rosters and parent information sheets. They will be in constant communication with the parents about all things camp related topics alongside the Camp Director.
- Provide enthusiastic and inspiring leadership to summer staff, ensuring a supportive, safe, and exciting atmosphere for spirited campers.
- Attend orientations and actively contribute to the preparation of campsite outlines, group formulations, and staff assignments.
- Assist in the preparation of the campsite, conducting staff training, and assuming equal responsibility for general housekeeping tasks.
- Weekly reports on missing payments and documents from families before attending camp
- Being the "face" of camp at drop of and pick up. Supporting the leadership team at the front with parent questions and engaging with the families
- Support in registering new families week by week
- Accept/ Check any payments, forms, and consents that are brought in
- Enroll any campers/families on on-site computer if dropping in for camp
- Every morning at camp work with the other directors to contact absent families
- Engage with families by sending out daily updates and reminders; fun newsletters recapping the week and what is to come
- Work with the camp director to create weekly group (and swim or field trip) rosters and make updates as needed
- Keep files of all camp family forms; medical, trip consents, swim lessons, etc
- Keep all camp binders organized
- Order office supply materials as needed
- Support in weekly inventory of camp supplies and updating the camp budget documents
- Connect with the Programming and Off Site Assistant Directors about special event logistics, bussing/field trip/swim information and support them in any communication
- Make yourself available to parents for questions, concerns and praises.
- Attend orientations, prepare a general outline for campsites, help formulate camp groups, assign staff to positions, prepare the site and conduct staff training. Dates TBD but likely Saturdays before camp begins
- Ensure that all program equipment and supplies are ordered, available and properly maintained.
- Recognize, prevent and correct safety hazards; guard the health and safety of all campers and staff.
- Act as a key player in problem solving with staff issues and parental concerns.
- Assume equal responsibility for general housekeeping tasks. This includes bagging trash, campsite clean-up, and bus clean up.
- Demonstrate organizational skills and have a plan. Plan for the known and have a plan for the unknown
- Contribute to daily drop-off and pick-up operations, ensuring a smooth and positive experience for both campers and parents.
Pre-Summer & Summer Work Schedule:
- Pre Summer Camp Expectations:
- Late March to April (8 to 10 hours per week)
- Attend meetings with your Camp Leadership teams bi-weekly. Start preparing for the summer weeks (family engagement, registrations, camp payments, camper paperwork, communications, etc)
- Camp Directors will set periodic 1:1 check ins with the Admin Assistant Director to discuss specific family related topics and needs
- Support parent outreach and communication
- Answering questions and sending up relevant camp information
- Support in making camper phone calls and help parents register for camp
- Support with camp marketing
- Help with virtual or in-person camp fairs/events in the community and open houses. You will help to promote the camp and answer parent questions at these events.
- Attend Camp Trainings and support in creating training materials
- Admin Assistant Director Trainings
- 3 to 4 sessions starting in April
- Attend training specific to admin duties such as: operations, compliance, camper / employee files, customer success, parent communications, UltraCamp
- Support with Virtual or In Person Parent Open Houses with the Camp Director
- Supervise the chat rooms to answer questions and collect family information
- May to June (10 to 20 hours per week)
- Attend specific Admin and Operations Assistant Director meetings and check ins with our team
- Support parent outreach and communication
- Collecting all outdated payments and camper paperwork before day 1 of camp
- Answer parent questions or concerns
- Continue Camp Leadership meetings and check ins
- Wrap up summer paperwork and files prep
- Support in staff retention efforts and touch points with your support staff
- Team building activities

- You will be expected to attend and support all of the on-site training days.

- CPR/First Aid/AED Trainings (4 hours)
- Participate in scheduled CPR/First Aid/AED training. These are required for all Assistant Directors.
- Summer Camp Expectations:
- Full time in-person camp leadership support for a camp with 60+ campers and 20+ staff members
- June 14 – August 22, 2025
- Includes pre-camp training & 8 weeks of camp
- Monday – Friday (7:30a – 5:00p)
- Supporting at least one day per week of aftercare until 5:30pm

Compensation Range:
This is a part-time, seasonal position based in New York City. Assistant Directors must be available to work part time from Late April - June (range of 8-15+ hours per week) to complete pre-summer work expectations. Assistant Directors must be available to work full time from late June to the end of August to oversee camp operations.
Pre Summer Compensation:
- Monthly stipends ranging from $150-$450 per month
- Starting in April at $150
- Monthly pre-summer stipends increase each month based on workload.
- Assistant Directors only receive the full pre summer stipend each month if they complete required milestone expectations
- Rates will be prorated depending on progress
- Total of around $800 to $900 pre-summer compensation depending on start date and the # of hours committed per week
- In addition you will receive a training bonus for May to June
- Pre summer training stipend: $355
- $120 for virtual trainings and $180 for all 3 on site training days
- $55 for an in person field day in June
- Training attendance is mandatory
- You must complete all virtual and in-person trainings
- Missed sessions or absences will result in a prorate training payment
Summer Compensation:
- Biweekly salary payments from July - August 2025
- Riverdale, Inwood, UES Carnegie Hill, Yorkville, East Village, West Village, and Greenpoint will run for 8 weeks
- Park Slope, Fort Greene and UWS camp locations will run for 7 weeks
- Total salary range based on 8 weeks of summer camp:
- $800 to $900 per week
- 8 week camp salary range (without the training stipend)
- Total salary range based on 7 weeks of summer camp:
- $800 to $900 per week
- 7 week camp salary range (without the training stipend)
- Rates are based on camp enrollment (number of campers per week) and prior years of experience in similar roles and prior Assistant Director experience
** Additional end of Camp Bonuses will be distributed to camp teams based on camper enrollment and satisfaction ratings from registered families.
