Job Purpose: The teacher shall prayerfully help students learn attitudes, skills, and subject matter that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible Christians to the praise and glory of God.
Major Responsibilities:
- Reflect the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ in every class and every activity
- Lead students to a realization of their self-worth in Christ
- Integrate Biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout all curriculum and activities
- Represent the school in a favorable and professional manner
- Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents, and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity, and consideration
- Cooperate with the School Board and administration in implementing all policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the school
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly classroom
- Establish and enforce rules of conduct for students in the classroom in accordance with school policies
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning; share lesson plans with the administration in accordance with school policy
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests
- Evaluate student progress by preparing, administering, and scoring tests, quizzes, and exams
- Monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies
- Maintain accurate and complete student records and post grades in accordance with administrative requirements
- Perform administrative duties as assigned, such as assisting school libraries, hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading
- Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers or other experiential activities, and guide students in learning from those activities
- Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs, and student organizations as directed
- Assist parents by providing academic information, suggesting available educational and social resources, answering questions and requests, and promptly notifying them of student issues or concerns
- Prepare a summary of each parent conference for the student’s file and document according to school policy
- Participate in daily prayer meetings, in-service, retreats, and committee, faculty, staff, and parent-teacher meetings and fellowships
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing professional networks
- Know and be able to implement emergency procedures according to applicable school policy; instruct and train students to execute emergency procedures quickly and calmly
