General Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, the Golf Course Chemical Applicator will apply fertilizers, pesticides and other plant care product as directed by the Superintendent. The employee will also be involved in virtually all other aspects of turf care as part of the golf maintenance team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for proper application of plant care products as directed by management.
- Responsible for understanding best application practices including following State and Federal guidelines for applicator safety, environmental protection and public safety.
- Responsible for a working knowledge of plant care products and how to properly calculate and execute tank mixing and rates, as directed.
- Responsible to clean and maintain all spraying equipment and the designated work area.
- Responsible for timely, accurate and thorough record keeping as required by the District and State and local regulatory agencies.
- Responsible for a good working knowledge of operating multiple pieces of golf maintenance equipment such as top dressers, aerators, seeders, mowers, etc.
- Ensures that the golf course and its surrounding areas are suitable for guest traffic.
- Responsible for understanding and following District policies and safety protocol.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Operating experience and understanding of various types of golf course application equipment such as sprayers and spreaders.
- Experience and understanding of tank mixing plant care products and application rates.
- Basic knowledge of plant care cultural best practices such as topdressing, aeration watering, etc.
- Basic understanding of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and scouting for pests as required.
- Must possess a valid State of Colorado driver license.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with golf course staff and guests.
- Must be able to perform multiple tasks with many interruptions.
- Must be able to work with little to no supervision and also be enthusiastic, self-motivated and a team player.
Working Environment/Physical Activities:
- Must be able to perform a varied work schedule including weekends and holidays, as required.
- Work performed is primarily outside and will at times be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat or extreme cold.
- May work near moving mechanical parts.
- Will be working around equipment that may be moderately noisy and require ear protection.
- Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Education/Experience:
Position requires High School diploma or equivalent, plus one (1) year experience working in golf maintenance. Ideal candidate will have secondary education in turf care or horticulture and have long term career goals in the plant care industry. Must also possess a valid State of Colorado Driver’s License and obtain a Pesticide Applicators License from the State of Colorado within six (6) months of being hired.
