Job Title: Senior Data Engineer
Compensation: $110,000 - $140,000

The job:
The Senior Data Engineer will play a critical role in a high-performing team tasked with enabling innovation and data solutions across the organization. This individual will help deliver on Buildertrend’s Data Strategy through the creation and maintenance of key data pipelines leading to a comprehensive Data Lakehouse with a focus on quality. They will maintain existing critical data pipelines and infrastructure while also migrating key elements to an updated data stack that will enable key Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning workloads. They will work cross-functionally with Quantitative Strategists, Software Engineers, Operations teams, and Company Leaders to ensure that developed solutions reflect key needs of the organization.
What you will do:
- Design and Build Data Lakehouse Solutions: Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of Data Lakehouse solutions to support the company’s evolving data needs including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
- Develop Scalable Data Pipelines: Engineer scalable ETL pipelines using Databricks, dbt, and other modern tools to process structured and unstructured data efficiently into usable curated data.
- Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with other technology and business teams to ensure seamless integration of data systems, leveraging tools like Fivetran and Hightouch to manage data across various sources.
- Secure and Scalable Data Infrastructure: Design, implement, and support infrastructure providing secure and performant access to large datasets using Databricks, BigQuery, and Snowflake.
- Build and Enhance Data Products: Develop and optimize data products that enable stakeholders and customers to extract insights and make data-driven decisions.
- Ensure Data Quality: Develop and implement solutions to ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data across systems.
- Stay Current with Technology Trends: Continuously evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to keep the company at the forefront of data engineering practices.
Who you are and what you need:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree required in Computer Science or a related field
- 5 years of experience required in Data Engineering, Data Science, or Data Analysis
Preferred:
- Demonstrate knowledge of working with enterprise data warehouse platforms (Databricks, BigQuery) and other modern tools (dbt, Fivetran) to process large sets of data.
- Provide deep proficiency with Microsoft SQL, other database platforms, and third-party APIs.
- Establish extensive experience with normalized and denormalized data and transforming raw data into analytics-ready curated datasets.
- Maintain strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts.
- Establish experience with ETL/ELT (Extract, Transform, Load) tools and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex data sets.
- Ability to look at solutions unconventionally, explore opportunities, and devise innovative solutions.
- Provide excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to document complex data in simple, business-driven terms for discoverability.
