MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Training:Â
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and two years experience and/ or post-secondary education in Fire Science.
- Specialized training in the operation of heavy equipment such as fire trucks or ladder trucks.
- Requires EMT certification at the time of hire.
- Post secondary education in fire suppression is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Requires basic knowledge of the principles of specialized equipment mechanics and skill at equipment operation.
- Requires knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services.
- Requires knowledge of and skill at using hand held communications devices.
- Requires sufficient knowledge of the English language to read and comprehend fire suppression and prevention, building safety, equipment operation and basic medical materials and information.
- Requires sufficient math skills to record distances and measurements.
- Requires sufficient human relations skills to convey information to a variety of individuals and groups inside the department and in the community.
- Knowledge of company protocols , operational procedures, and safety policies.
- Requires the ability to serve as Incident Commander throughout the incident or until relieved by a higher officer
- Requires the ability to learn various and numerous fire suppression and fire prevention methods, procedures, and techniques including the operation of firefighting equipment
- Requires the ability to learn and recall the street system pattern and physical design of the communities and service areas as well as building characteristics
- Requires the ability to learn and respond to emergency situations, when not directly supervised and to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.Â
- Requires the ability to maintain detailed routine records
- Requires the ability to complete all required courses of study and continuing education
- Requires the ability to learn and operate the fire suppression, rescue and emergency medical equipment used by the department.
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances.  If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
