REPORTS TO: ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATION
STATUS: FULL-TIME, EXEMPT, SALARIED
This position is responsible for providing comprehensive undergraduate academic monitoring and advising, participating in campus-wide outreach activities and fostering the academic success of students at the College. The academic advisor/retention specialist must be responsive to the needs of a large number of diverse students and be prepared to work in a high-volume and fast-paced environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advises incoming freshmen, undeclared majors and students involved with the College in high school programs.
- Assists students with program planning, general course selection and other academic support.
- Collaborates with Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Life and Athletics to support student academic success and retention efforts.
- Coordinates academic development workshops for students and support for probationary students.
- Assists with the planning and implementation of First Year Experience and Exploration programming.
- Maintains student advising records.
- Assists with maintenance of the advising module in Jenzabar EX.
- Coordinates the placement and waiver process.
- Updates four-year advising plans with the deans.
- Assists with the development and maintenance of advising-related publications and materials.
- Assists faculty with academic advising procedures and implementation.
- Assists with new student orientation programs and open campus days.
- Assists in the tracking of student progress.
- Serves as an information resource for students, faculty and staff regarding College policies and procedures relative to academic advising.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the associate vice president for academic administration.
